COLUMBUS, Ohio -- No. 2 Ohio State (6-0) remains at home this week to face No. 1 Virginia Saturday (1 p.m.). The Cavaliers enter the match with a 6-0 record.Â
- This will be the Buckeyes third-consecutive match against a Top 5 opponent after they defeated No. 5 Texas and No. 1 Wake Forest last weekend at Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
- The match last Sunday against Wake Forest marked Ohio State's fifth consecutive win over a team ranked No. 1.
- Nikita Filin recorded clinching points against both the Longhorns and Demon Deacons in singles, finishing with an undefeated 4-0 record on the weekend. Filin was named B1G player of the week for his efforts.
- Virginia and Ohio State have been two of the top programs over the last 18 seasons. The all-time series record is 11-10 in favor of the Buckeyes with Ohio State holding a three-game win streak against the Cavaliers.Â
- Dating back to 2000, as the No. 2-ranked team, Ohio State has faced off against the No. 1 ranked team three times. The Buckeyes are 2-1 in these contests with the last match in 2020 against USC in an Ohio State victory.
- The Buckeyes opened the 2026 season ranked No. 6 in the ITA preseason rankings and after the pair of victories last weekend they moved up to No. 2.Â
- Loren Byers leads the team in singles with a 4-0 dual record on court six, Jack Anthrop and Bryce Nakashima are right behind him with a 3-0 dual record in singles.
- Five buckeyes are ranked in the latest ITA singles rankings. Aidan Kim leads the way at No. 13, followed by Preston Stearns at No. 22, Jack Anthrop at No. 24, Alex Okonkwo at No. 29 and Filin at No. 98.
- Brandon Carpico and Filin hold an undefeated 3-0 dual record in doubles, jumping them from No. 5 to No. 1 in the latest ITA doubles rankings.
- Four other Ohio State pairs are ranked with Alexander Bernard and Okonkwo at No. 7, Aidan Kim and Bryce Nakashima at No. 8, Jack Anthrop and Preston Stearns at No. 43 and Jack Anthrop and Loren Byers at No. 47.
- After hosting Virginia, the Buckeyes will travel to Dallas, Texas to compete in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship against 15 other schools. Ohio State has been crowned champion three times in 2014, 2019 and most recently in 2024.
