
Klinge Wins 50 Free Silver on Third Night of Big Ten Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 11 Ohio State men's swimming and diving team completed day three of competition at the Big Ten Championships on Friday, highlighted by Matt Klinge's silver medal in the 50 free.
In the B final of the 100 back, Cornelius Jahn placed sixth with an NCAA standard time of 45.88 and Joseph Roth placed eighth with a time of 47.06.
Tristan Jankovics competed in the B final of the 200 breast. He finished third with an NCAA cut of 1:53.67. In the C final, Sam Vaisburg placed seventh, touching at 1:55.48.
Jordi Vilchez placed fourth in the 500 free with a program record and NCAA standard time of 4:11.52. He broke his previously held program record of 4:11.79 set in the fall at the Ohio State Fall Invitational. Also in the A final, Mason Edmund placed eighth with a time of 4:18.79.
In the C final of the 500 free, Alex Axon and TJ Frost placed sixth and seventh, respectively. Axon finished in 4:21.28 and Frost finished in 4:21.65.
Klinge was the silver medalist in the 50 free with an NCAA cut of 19.00.
In the B final of the 50 free, Rasmus Hanson placed fourth with a time of 19.45, Tomas Navikonis placed fifth with a time of 19.63 and Ahmed Ismail placed seventh with a time of 19.76. Evan Fentress was the winner of the C final, touching at 19.64. Ethan Reniewicki placed fourth in the C final with a time of 19.82.
Three Buckeyes qualified for the A final of the three-meter dive. Hamish Patel, Ernest Braitenbach and Dom Roberto placed 6-7-8. Patel scored a 344.65, Braitenbach scored a 337.85 and Roberto scored a 312.55. Patel and Braitenbach's scores are NCAA Zones qualifiers.
The night wrapped up with the 400 medley relay. The relay team of Jahn, Jankovics, Klinge and Navikonis placed fourth with an automatic NCAA qualifying time of 3:04.26.
The Buckeyes are in third place with 712.5 points. Indiana leads with 1061.5 points and Michigan is in second with 811 points.
The Big Ten Championships wrap up on Saturday, Feb. 28. Prelims will begin at 11 a.m. ET and finals will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET and both sessions will stream on B1G+.
