COLUMBUS, Ohio – The calendar is turning to March and Ohio State will start a key stretch of three games in seven days to finish the regular season when it hosts No. 8 Purdue on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. and the game will televised nationally on CBS. Kevin Harlan and Robbie Hummel will call the action.
The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.
- The Buckeyes and Boilermakers are meeting for the 189th time and the all-time series is even at 94-94. Taking into account vacated games, Purdue officially leads the series 94-88 while the Buckeyes lead 56-32 in games in Columbus.
- The Buckeyes have won the last two meetings in the series, winning in Columbus in 2024 and winning at Mackey Arena last year. Ohio State hasn’t won three consecutive games against Purdue since a six-game winning streak from 2012-14. The two games that started that streak in 2012 came during the senior year of Purdue All-American Robbie Hummel.
- Last year, fifth-year guard Micah Parrish scored a career-high 22 points and Ohio State erased a 16-point deficit to comeback for a 73-70 victory over No. 11 Purdue in Mackey Arena. The win stopped Purdue’s 26-game home winning streak. Parrish was a career-best 6-of-8 from long range and scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half. After a tough opening half, the Buckeyes shot 66.7 percent in the second half while limiting Purdue to under 40 percent shooting.
- The Buckeyes are coming off a game in which they didn’t score as many points as Iowa on Wednesday night in Iowa City. John Mobley Jr. returned from missing the previous three game to make three three-pointers and finish with 15 points. Devin Royal led the Buckeyes with 16 points while Bruce Thornton added 10 points.
- Thornton is coming down the stretch of his career and is looking to become the program’s all-time leading scorer. He is just 50 points away from passing Dennis Hopson who finished his career with 2,096 from 1984-87.
- Thornton is also just 18 rebounds away from becoming just the second Big Ten player to record 2,000 points, 500 assists and 500 rebounds. Penn State’s Talor Battle, who was an assistant coach at Ohio State last season, reached all three milestones in his career from 2008-11.
- Mobley Jr. has made 73 three-pointers on the season and is shooting a career-best 40.8 from beyond the arc. That is tops in the Big Ten.
- Purdue has lost two of its last three games following a rare home setback on Thursday night to Michigan State. Braden Smith is leading the team in scoring at 14.8 points per game and is second in the Big Ten at 8.8 assists per game.
