
Buckeye Beam Team Shines in B1G Dual at Michigan State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 21 Ohio State women's gymnastics team finished its Big Ten dual meet at No. 11 Michigan State with a team score of 196.850. The Buckeyes, who closed the meet with strong rotations on floor and beam, finished second to the Spartans (197.300) Saturday at Jenison Field House in East Lansing, Mich.
Ohio State outscored Michigan State on beam, earning a 49.235 in the final rotation. Tory Vetter and Natalie Martin tied for the event title with scores of 9.925. The score ties Vetter's career high and is a season high for Martin. Ohio State took four of the top five spots on the event with Courtney McCann (9.875) third and Ava Jackson (9.825) fifth.
Ohio State's best event of the meet was floor. The team finished the third rotation with a 49.475 on the event, its second highest score on the apparatus this year. JJ Coleman recorded her sixth score of 9.900 or above this year, scoring a 9.925 to lead the team on the event and finish third overall. Baylie Belman and Tory Vetter also added scores of 9.900 to tie for fourth. The Buckeyes also counted scores of 9.875 from Ryle Guevara and Cameron Smith.
Vetter scored a 39.475 in the all-around to take home the event title for the fifth time this season. She added a 9.825 on vault and uneven bars in addition to her season-high marks on beam and floor. The Hilliard, Ohio native led the team on beam and bars in Saturday's meet.
Kaitlyn Grimes and Martin were the Buckeyes' highest scorers on vault. The two tied for fourth overall with scores of 9.850. The score is a season-high for Grimes.
Ohio State concludes its regular season Big Ten schedule next weekend at the Big Four meet. The Buckeyes will compete at UCLA against the Bruins, Maryland and Iowa on Friday, Feb. 27 at 10 p.m. ET. The meet will be televised on Big Ten Network.
