Ohio State Third at Big Four Meet

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 19 Ohio State women's gymnastics team finished third at the Big Four Meet with a score of 196.425 Friday night at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, Calif.
UCLA won the meet with a score of 196.950 and Iowa (196.475) took second. The Buckeyes (4-6, 4-5 B1G) earned a Big Ten win over Maryland (195.025) to close the conference schedule.
Ohio State started the meet on balance beam, scoring a 49.000 in the rotation. Natalie Martin led the team and took second overall with a 9.900, her third consecutive score of 9.900 or above this season on beam. The Buckeyes also counted scores from Tory Vetter (9.825), Rylee Guevara (9.800), Ava Jackson (9.775) and Courtney McCann (9.700).
Next on floor, JJ Coleman hit 9.900 for the seventh time this season to lead the team on the event. Her score tied for second overall. Guevara and Vetter added scores of 9.850 while Baylie Belman scored a 9.825. Ohio State also counted one of the 9.800s from Kaitlyn Grimes and Cameron Smith for a final score of 49.225.
In the third rotation, the Buckeyes scored a season-high 49.350 on vault. Smith, Coleman and Martin each scored a 9.900 to lead the team and tie for second overall. The score is a career-high for Smith and Coleman and is a season-best for Martin. Jaylyn Pomager also tied her career high with a 9.825.
Coleman and Jackson led the team with 9.825s on uneven bars in the final rotation. The team didn't count a fall for the first time this season on the event and finished with a team score of 48.850.
Ohio State returns home to host Eastern Michigan, NC State and Penn State Sunday, March 8. The meet is set for 2 p.m. at the Covelli Center.
