No. 2 Buckeyes Begin B1G Play with 5-2 Win at Penn State

Ohio State improves to 7-1 on the year
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 ranked Ohio State women's tennis team downed Penn State, 5-2, in the Big Ten Conference opener for both teams Sunday in University Park, Pa. The Buckeyes improve to 7-1 on the year, with the Nittany Lions 5-1.

Buckeyes Nao Nishino and Alessia Cau were both victorious in singles and doubles vs. Penn State. In doubles, Cau paired with Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev for a win, while Nishino and Johnson teamed up for a victory. Luciana Perry and Teah Chavez also notched singles victories.

How it Happened
- The No. 89-ranked duo of Flora Johnson and Nao Nishino shut out Brianna Baldi and Maria Ciubotaru on court three for the first doubles win.
- Alessia Cau and Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Patricia Grigoras and Maiko Uchijima on court two.
- On court one, Buckeyes Luciana Perry and Audrey Spencer were leading 5-1 when the doubles point was clinched.
- Singles started with the matches on courts one through four, with four courts available at Penn State.
- Perry, ranked third, dropped just one game in each set against Maelie Monfils on court one for a 2-0 Ohio State lead.
- No. 13-ranked Teah Chavez followed with a straight set win, defeating Uchijima, 6-3, 6-3.
- On court four, Nishino clinched the Buckeye victory, topping Olivia Dorner, 6-3, 6-2.
- The Nittany Lions won the next two completed matches. On court three, Buckeye Cisse-Ignatiev, ranked No. 114, rallied to force a match tiebreaker vs. Grigoras but lost, 6-1, 5-7, 11-9. On court five, Johnson lost in straight sets to Baldi.
- Cau closed out the victory when she topped Ciubotaru, 6-2, 6-3, on court six.
- Chavez is 6-0 in dual matches this spring and Nishino and Perry both now have five wins.
