
Buckeyes Advance to Olympic Quarterfinals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The women's hockey tournament of the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics is on to the quarterfinal round with all 12 players representing the Ohio State women's hockey team advancing to the round.
Mira Jungåker, Jenna Raunio and Hilda Svensson helped Team Sweden to a 4-0 record in Group B preliminary play to advance into the quarterfinals. Svensson and Raunio each had four points in the group stage. Sweden will play Czechia in its quarterfinal matchup at 10:40 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13.
Also undefeated in group play were Team USA and Buckeyes Cayla Barnes, Hannah Bilka and Joy Dunne. Bilka and Dunne tied for the team lead among first-time Olympic players with four points in four games of Group A play. Bilka tallied two goals in the team's 5-0 win over Canada, the team's first shut out against Canada in the Olympic Games. Dunne registered three points in the team's shutout of Switzerland. Bilka's first Olympic goal was scored against the Swiss and Dunne tallied her first Olympic goal in the team's opening game of the tournament against Czechia. The United States will play host Italy at 3:10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13 in the quarterfinals.
Canada finished second in Group A, with its only loss in the prelims coming against the United States. Natalie Spooner scored the team's first goal of the tournament in the win over Switzerland. Sophie Jaques is second on the team with a +3 on ice through four games. She tallied her first Olympic point with an assist in the game against Finland. Jenn Gardiner scored her first Olympic goal in the win over Finland and is +2 on ice in four games played. Emma Maltais recorded an assist in the win over Czechia. Canada's quarterfinal matchup is against Germany at 10:40 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14.
Sanni Vanhanen and Andrea Braendli will face off in the quarterfinals for Finland and Switzerland, respectively, as the teams meet at 3:10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14. Braendli has dressed in two games for Switzerland in the tournament and played in the matchup against Canada, making 45 saves on 50 shots faced for a save percentage of 90 percent. Vanhanen leads Finland with two points in the tournament on a goal and an assist. She is one of three players on the team with a goal.
