COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State is in the middle of a three-game in seven-day stretch and will host USC in a huge matchup at the Schottenstein Center on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will televised on BTN. Dave Revsine and Steve Smith will call the action.
The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.
- The teams are tied in the Big Ten standings at 7-6 and the game has NCAA Tournament bubble implications.
- Wednesday’s game will be the ninth all-time meeting between the teams on the hardwood with Ohio State holding a slim 5-3 edge in those games.
- The teams split a pair of home-and-home series in the 1990s with each team winning on its home floor. Overall, the Buckeyes are 2-0 all-time vs. the Trojans in Columbus.
- In the eight previous meetings, the overall score is close as Ohio State has outscored USC by just 11 points, 570-560.
- The Buckeyes are coming off a game in which they did not score as many points as No. 2 Michigan. Bruce Thornton registered team-highs of 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. Devin Royal added 15 points and matched Thornton with six rebounds. Christoph Tilly made a pair of threes and finished with 10 points.
- Thornton will likely move into fifth place on the Ohio State all-time scoring list on Wednesday night as he enters the game just five points behind Kelvin Ransey (1977-80) with 1,929 career points.
- Taison Chatman has made multiple three-pointers in each of the last three games and is 9-of-14 from long range in the last four games. Chatman has scored 43 points in the last four games (10.3 ppg) while scoring just 27 points in his previous 14 games combined (1.9 ppg).
- Christoph Tilly had 19 points in the win at Maryland last week and followed that with a 10-point effort against Michigan on Sunday. He is 3-of-4 from long range in the last two games.
- John Mobley Jr. did not make a three-pointer in the game against Michigan on Sunday, marking his first game this season without a three and just the second of his career. The way he’s been shooting the ball the last month, he’s due for a bounce-back on Wednesday. Now, at the free throw line, Mobley Jr. has made his 22 attempts.
- USC comes to town after a thrilling 77-75 last second victory at Penn State on Sunday afternoon. The Trojans have won four of their last five games with the lone loss in that stretch being a tough 73-72 setback at Iowa. Transfer Chad Baker-Mazara is averaging 18.3 points per game this season while freshman Alijah Arenas has averaged 26.5 ppg over the last two games.
