COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State heads west this weekend for one of its biggest conference matches of the season, traveling to Los Angeles to face UCLA Saturday at Wallis Armstrong Stadium.
Â
The Buckeyes enter the match 6-2-2 overall and fresh off a 2-1 road victory over Penn State. Ohio State has been one of the Big Ten's most complete teams through the first half of the season, combining a potent attack with a stingy defense. The Buckeyes have scored 23 goals in 10 matches while allowing just 10 and own a 2-0-2 record away from Columbus.
Â
A major reason for Ohio State's success has been its balance. The Buckeyes feature several offensive weapons, led by forward Isaiah Chisolm, who has scored seven goals in just four appearances this season. Chisolm ranks first on the team in both goals and points and has provided an immediate spark to the Ohio State attack. He was recently named to the 2026 MAC Hermann Midseason Watch List.Â
Â
Martin Wurschmidt has added four goals, including both scores last week in the win over Penn State. Aaron Hurge has contributed three goals and two assists, while Josue Youta and Andre Roberts share the team lead with four assists apiece. Wurschmidt was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week following his performance in Happy Valley.Â
Â
Ohio State also has been strong defensively. Goalkeeper Patrick McLaughlin has started every match and owns an 0.84 goals-against average with four shutouts. He turned in one of his best performances of the season at Penn State, making six saves, a career high, to help preserve the victory.
Â
The challenge gets considerably tougher Saturday against a UCLA squad that is 6-1-4 and playing some of its best soccer of the season. The Bruins have won three-consecutive matches and have scored 12 goals during that stretch, highlighted by a 5-1 victory over Westmont earlier this week.
Â
Like Ohio State, UCLA features a balanced attack. Jaime Amaro and Shakir Nixon pace the Bruins with five goals each. Amaro also leads the team with 13 points, while Nixon has converted all four of his penalty-kick opportunities. Diego Castano and Zachary Neuls have each added three goals, giving UCLA multiple scoring options throughout the lineup.
Â
The Bruins have scored 26 goals in 11 matches this season and average 2.36 goals per game, slightly ahead of Ohio State's 2.30 scoring average.
Â
In goal, Ryan Tiltack has posted a 5-0-2 record with a 1.09 goals-against average and two shutouts. His play has helped UCLA remain unbeaten in seven of his eight starts.
