Buckeyes return home to take on Michigan State Friday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State (6-3-2, 1-3-1) battled No. 21 UCLA (7-1-4, 3-1-2) Saturday in Los Angeles but fell 2-1 at Wallis Annenberg Stadium.

Martin Wurschmidt, the Big Ten's Offensive Player of the Week, cut UCLA's lead in half in the 75' on a penalty kick goal. The Buckeyes were awarded the chance after the Bruins were called for a hand ball in the box.

UCLA scored first with a second half penalty kick goal in the 51'. Ohio State goalkeeper Patrick McLaughlin was called for a foul in the box. The Bruins were awarded a PK that was scored by Diego Castano for the lead.
Castano struck again in the 66' after taking a long pass from Victor Ciaurriz and putting it just over McLaughlin for the score.
The Buckeyes were able to score late in the last two matches to salvage a 1-all draw at George Mason and then a 2-1 win at Penn State. Ohio State got the equalizer in the 87' in Fairfax, Virginia, before scoring twice in the final three minutes to win in State College.
McLaughlin got the start for the Buckeyes in goal. He is 11-5-4 in 20 career starts.
