EUGENE, Ore. – A dominant second-half run and a balanced scoring effort powered Ohio State to a 72–62 road win over Oregon on Monday night at Matthew Knight Arena.
The Buckeyes improve to 11-4 overall and 3-2 in Big Ten play, marking their first 3-0 start in Big Ten road games since the 2017–18 season.
Five Ohio State starters finished in double figures, led by junior Devin Royal (Pickerington, Ohio), who posted 14 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Senior center Christoph Tilly (Berlin, Germany) added 14 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.
Senior guard Bruce Thornton (Fairburn, Ga.) finished with 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists. His second-half jumper moved him past Jim Jackson for seventh on Ohio State’s all-time scoring list, now sitting at 1,787 career points.
Sophomore guard John Mobley Jr. (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) added 13 points and five rebounds, hitting two of five from long range. Freshman Amare Bynum (Omaha, Neb.) chipped in 10 points, four rebounds and three blocks, while redshirt sophomore Gabe Cupps (Dayton, Ohio) played his most complete game of the season, scoring a career-high nine points and grabbing four rebounds off the bench.
After leading 34–29 at the half, Ohio State blew the game open with a 21-0 run, holding Oregon scoreless for over five minutes. The Buckeyes stretched the lead to 24 at one point, fueled by rebounding, strong interior defense, and efficient offense, finishing with 13 offensive rebounds and 34 points in the paint.
Ohio State also held Oregon to 32.8 percent shooting and just 7-of-30 from three. The Ducks were led by Nate Bittle, who scored 14 second-half points, and Takai Simpkins, who added 12. Oregon’s late 14–2 run narrowed the gap, but the Buckeyes closed the game out at the line and controlled the final two minutes to secure the win.
