EUGENE, Ore. – Ohio State heads west this week for its annual West Coast trip, opening against Oregon on Thursday evening. Tip-off is set for 10:30 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on BTN. Guy Haberman and Jess Settles will call the action.
The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.
- This will be just the sixth all-time meeting between Ohio State and Oregon, with the Buckeyes holding a narrow 3-2 edge in the series.
- The schools played in the first NCAA Championship game in 1939 when the Oregon Webfoots claimed the title with a 46-33 victory. The Buckeyes won home games in 1945 and 1971 and then Ohio State won the Far West Classic in Portland, Ore., with a 79-75 victory in 1992.
- In the first Big Ten game between the teams last year, Ohio State led for the majority of the game but Oregon got hot down the stretch and snuck out with a 73-71 victory. Bruce Thornton led the Buckeyes with 20 points and three assists. Sean Stewart had 14 points, nine rebounds and a pair of steals.
- Oregon’s Sean Stewart played for the Buckeyes last season, averaging 5.7 points and 5.8 rebounds across 30 games.
- The Buckeyes are coming off another tough setback, falling short in a second half battle with No. 10 Nebraska 72-69. After trailing by 14 points in the first half, the Buckeyes came back to take a three-point lead midway through the second half but Nebraska got a pair of clutch buckets late to escape with the victory.
- John Mobley Jr. led the Buckeyes with 22 points against Nebraska, making five more three-pointers. He has made 14 three-pointers over the last three games, the most threes he’s made in a three-game stretch in his career.
- Bruce Thornton had 16 points and seven assists on Monday vs. Nebraska. He now has 1,775 career points, which is eighth in program history. He is just 10 points away from catching All-American Jim Jackson (1990-92) for seventh-most in program history.
- Devin Royal has scored in double figures in each of the last 10 games, the longest double-digit streak of his career. He is averaging 14.3 points and a team-best 5.5 rebounds per game this season.
- Senior forward Brandon Noel suffered a foot injury during the game against Nebraska on Jan. 5 and will be out indefinitely.
- Oregon enters the game at 8-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play after splitting a pair of games at Maryland and Rutgers last week. The Ducks are second in the conference in offensive rebounds per game. Nate Bittle leads the team in scoring at 17.0 ppg and Kwame Evans Jr. is grabbing a team-high 8.1 rebounds per contest.
