Buckeyes 7-2 on Day One of Schiller Duals

Team wraps up regular season Sunday
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio State fencing programs opened the Schiller Duals hosted by Northwestern in Ryan Fieldhouse in Evanston, Ill., Saturday. The No. 7-ranked Buckeye women were 4-1 on the day, with the No. 5 men 3-1.

The Buckeye Men
The men went 3-1 on the day, downing No. 15 UCSD 16-11, Detroit Mercy 24-3 and Lawrence 23-4, falling to No. 12 Stanford, 14-13. All three weapon squads were 3-1 Saturday.
Avin Rai was a perfect 9-0 on the day to lead the men's sabre squad, with Eddie Maklin (5-1) and Samuel Rightler (5-2) each recording five wins. In men's foil, Mitchell Huth was first with a 6-2 mark and Albert Bagdány and Mostafa Tahoun each posted 4-2 marks. Sami Boumedienne was first for epee with a 9-3 ledger and Nowell Gibson posted a 6-3 mark to rank second in wins.
The Buckeye Women
The women were 4-1 on day one of the Duals, with a shutout of Fairleigh Dickinson, 25-2 wins over Lawrence and Detroit Mercy and a 15-12 loss to No. 11 Stanford. Epee led the women with a 5-0 mark, with sabre and foil both 4-1.
Maria Alexe led women's sabre with a 10-3 day and Grace Fan was 9-0. For women's foil, Masha Cojocari was the leader with a 10-3 record, with Avery Levy 8-0 and Lira Cannon 8-3. In women's epee, Sally Fan had a 9-1 record, followed by Marie-Frederique Millette who was 8-1.
