COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State will finish out the month of January with a road trip to Madison to take on Wisconsin in a Saturday afternoon matchup on FOX. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. ET. Jason Benetti and Steve Smith will call the action.
The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.
- This will be the 176th all-time meeting and the Buckeyes officially lead the series 91-78.
- Wisconsin leads 50-31 in Madison as the Buckeyes are looking for their first win in the Kohl Center with fans since 2017.
- The recent series has been close. Over the last 13 meetings dating back to 2017, Wisconsin holds an 8-5 edge but just a four-point edge in the overall score 891-887.
- Last year, Ohio State dug itself a 17-point first-half hole and nearly came all the way back, cutting the deficit to just one in the final minute. But Wisconsin was stout from the line to hold on for a 70-68 victory on Jan. 14 in Madison. Bruce Thornton scored 19 of his game-high 21 points in the second half as the Buckeyes outscored Wisconsin 48-33 in the second 20 minutes. Devin Royal finished with 12 points and six rebounds.
- The Buckeyes are coming off an 84-78 victory over visiting Penn State on Monday night in Columbus. John Mobley Jr. led the Buckeyes for the fourth consecutive game, making five more three-pointers and finishing with 25 points and five assists. Taison Chatman came off the bench and scored 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Bruce Thornton scored a season-low nine points but also had five assists, zero turnovers and three steals.
- Mobley Jr. has averaged 5.0 three-point makes over the last four games. He has made four or more three-pointers in each of the last four games and is looking to tie Jamison Battle’s program record streak of five consecutive games with four or more threes, which he did during the 2023-24 season.
- Mobley Jr. is also seeking his fifth consecutive game of 20 or more points, something that hasn’t been done by a Buckeye since 2013.
- Bruce Thornton is just one point away from tying Michael Redd (1998-00) for sixth on the program’s all-time scoring list. Thornton has scored 1,878 career points and has scored a season-low in each of his last two games. A return to his average is coming.
- Wisconsin is completing a three-game home stand that saw the Badgers fall to USC last Saturday and then erase a 20-point deficit against Minnesota on Wednesday to pull out a 67-63 victory. Nick Boyd and John Blackwell are both averaging more than 18 points per game and have combined to make nearly 60 percent of the team’s free throws this season.
