
No. 16 Ohio State Opens B1G Schedule at Rutgers Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 16 Ohio State women's gymnastics team hits the road for the first time in 2026 with a trip to Piscataway, N.J. to compete at Rutgers. The Big Ten opener between the Buckeyes (0-1, 0-0 B1G) and Scarlet Knights (4-0, 0-0 B1G) is set for 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17 from Jersey Mike's Arena.

Buckeyes in a Nutshell
- Ohio State opened the 2026 season against then-ranked No. 12 Georgia at the Covelli Center. The team scored a 196.250 against the Bulldogs and won the vault title with a 48975 in the first rotation of the season.
- JJ Coleman and Kaitlyn Grimes recorded the first 9.900s of the season for the Buckeyes in the first meet of the year. The duo both recorded a 9.925 on floor. The score is a career best for Grimes and ties Coleman's career high. The score also ties for the best in the Big Ten and sixth best nationally after week two meets.
- Grimes, who is in her fifth season at Ohio State, returns to the uneven bars lineup for the first time in three years. She scored a 9.775 in the first meet of the year. The LaGrange, Ill. native also competes on vault for the Buckeyes, scoring a 9.750 in the leadoff spot last weekend.
- In the season opener, three gymnasts made their Buckeye debuts. Junior Natalie Martin competed on vault, beam and floor against Georgia with her best score of the day coming on floor (9.850). Freshmen Ava Jackson and Jaylyn Pomager competed in their first collegiate meet against the Bulldogs. Pomager scored routines on vault (9.750) and bars (9.800) and Jackson's beam routine (9.750) counted for the final event total.
- The Buckeyes are ranked 16th in the Road to Nationals standings this week. The team is third in the Big Ten. The season-opening floor score of 49.375 is the best in the conference.
- Ohio State's 2026 roster features 14 returners and seven newcomers, including five freshmen and two transfers.
- Coleman and Tory Vetter were named Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch for the 2026 season. Vetter, in her fifth season as a Buckeye, is a two-time First Team All-Big Ten honoree and Big Ten All-Championships Team member. Coleman competed in seven meets in 2025 and has career-high marks of 9.900 on vault, 9.850 on beam and 9.925 on floor.
