
Buckeyes Earn Series Sweep of St. Cloud State with Saturday Win

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team earned the season sweep of No. 15 St. Cloud State with a 5-1 win Saturday at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. The Buckeyes improve to 19-3-0 overall and 13-3-0 in conference play with the victory over the Huskies (7-14-1, 3-12-1 WCHA).
Short Story
St. Cloud State was first to score and took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission before the Buckeyes went on to score five unanswered in the last 30 minutes of play in the win.
Only two penalties were called in the game, one on each team. After going scoreless on the power play in game one, both Ohio State and St. Cloud State scored on their lone power plays of the day.
Every Buckeye goal was scored by a different player for the second time this weekend and eight players tallied a point in the contest.
Sophomore goaltender Genny Klein earned the game two start, making 22 saves for her fourth win of the season.

How it Happened
- St. Cloud State scored on the first power play of the game at 7:16. The Huskies took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
- Scoring opportunities were nearly even, with Ohio State outshooting St. Cloud State, 12-10, in the opening frame.
- The Buckeyes were awarded their one power play opportunity of the game at 10:17 in the second period and Mira Jungåker scored at 11:52 to tie the game. She was assisted by Sloane Matthews and Hilda Svensson.
- Kaia Malachino doubled the Ohio State lead less than a minute later, scoring at 12:44 off assists from Kassidy Carmichael and Brooke Disher.
- Maxine Cimoroni tallied the team's final goal of the second period at 17:37 to give Ohio State the 3-1 advantage at the second intermission. Matthews and Disher earned assists on the goal.
- Ohio State outshot the Huskies, 25-6, in the period to recover the lead.
- After assisting two goals in the second period, Matthews lit the lamp herself at 5:17 in the third. Cimoroni and Joy Dunne assisted the goal.
- Dunne recorded the empty net goal at 18:25 to put the exclamation point on the 5-1 road win.
- Matthews recorded a team-high three points in game two against the Huskies. She is the third Buckeye to hit 20 points on the season and has 22 points on the year with nine goals and 13 assists.
- Svensson now has a point in the last eight games for the Buckeyes, a season-long point streak. Jungåker extends her point streak to five games with her goal in Saturday's game.
- Ohio State is now 15-3-0 against ranked opponents this season.
