
Buckeyes Score 196.250 In Season Opener vs. Georgia

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 21 Ohio State women's gymnastics team opened its season Saturday at the Covelli Center against No. 12 Georgia, finishing the day with an overall team score of 196.250. The Bulldogs won the meet with a score of 197.000.
Ohio State's highest scoring event in the season opener was floor with a 49.375. JJ Coleman and Kaitlyn Grimes scored a 9.925 to lead the team on the apparatus with the first 9.900s of the season. The score was a career high for Grimes and tied Coleman's career best.
The Buckeyes won the team vault title over the Bulldogs with an overall score of 48.975. Cameron Smith and Tory Vetter tied for the team lead with scores of 9.850, good for second overall.
Payton Harris earned the event title on bars in her return to the lineup, scoring a 9.875.
Jaylyn Pomager, Natalie Martin and Ava Jackson made their Buckeye debuts in Saturday's meet. Martin competed on vault (9.775), beam (9.800) and floor (9.50) with all three scores counting towards the final total. In their first collegiate meets, Pomager competed on vault (9.750) and bars (9.800) and Jackson was in the lineup on bars (9.600), beam (9.750) and floor (9.750).
Coleman competed in the all-around for the just the second time in her career, finishing the day with a 38.625. Her 9.725 on bars was a career high.
