COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men's lacrosse players Alex Marinier and Bobby Van Buren were selected in the 2025 NLL Entry Draft Saturday afternoon. Marinier was picked sixth overall by the Halifax Thunderbirds and Van Buren 67th by the Georgia Swarm.
Ohio State has now produced 21 NLL draftees. Marinier is the team's 14th first-rounder. Since 2017, 15 Buckeyes have been drafted to the NLL, nine of which were first-round picks.
A Burlington, Ontario native, Marinier returns for his final collegiate season as the Buckeyes' leading scorer the last two years. In 2025, he led Big Ten Conference players with 50 goals. He is just the third Buckeye, and first since 1981, to score 50 goals in a single campaign. Marinier earned First Team All-Big Ten, Big Ten All-Tournament, USILA Honorable Mention All-America and Scholar All-America honors in 2025. Marinier is also an accomplished box player, winning the 2023 Minto Cup with the Burlington Blaze.
Van Buren, also playing his final collegiate season in 2026, leads a Buckeye defense that finished top 10 nationally in scoring defense in 2025. The Wingate, N.C. native picked up 24 ground balls and caused 16 turnovers while drawing the game's top matchup last season. He earned his second career First Team All-Big Ten nod in 2025 and was also a Tewaaraton Award nominee.
