COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men's tennis will open the collegiate season this upcoming week at the ITA All-American Championship in Tulsa, Okla. The annual event will start on Saturday, Sept. 20 and will run through the following Sunday, Sept. 28.Â
This event is the first of four qualifying events that lead into the NCAA Singles & Doubles Championship in November. The NCAA Division I Competition Oversight Committee approved a two-year pilot program to hold the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Individual Championships in the fall of 2024 and 2025. The four qualifying events are the ITA All-American Championships, ITA Regional Championships, ITA Conference Masters and ITA Sectional Championships.Â
A total of 64 singles qualifiers and 32 doubles teams will advance to the NCAA Championship in Orlando, Florida, Nov. 18-23.
- Aidan Kim, Loren Byers, Alexander Bernard, Bryce Nakashima and Alex Okonkwo are in the main singles draw while Jack Anthrop, Preston Stearns, Nikita Filin and Brandon Carpico all are starting in qualifying. Kim and Bryce Nakashima along with Anthrop and Preston Stearns are in the main doubles draw.Â
- Ohio State has had success at the All-American Championships. Buckeye doubles teams won recent titles as Robert Cash and Matej Vocel won in 2021, and Cash and JJ Tracy won in 2023. Those are two of four doubles champions to go along with three doubles runner-up finishes. In singles, JJ Wolf won the title in 2018, and Peter Kobelt finished runner-up in 2012.
- This season, the singles and doubles champions at the ITA All-American Championship will earn All-America honors.
- The Buckeyes are coming off another tremendous season, winning the Big Ten regular season title and making yet another successful NCAA Round of 16 appearance.
