
Former Captain Allan Hornyak Passes Away at Age 74

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Earlier this week, Former Ohio State captain Allan Hornyak passed away at the age of 74.
Hornyak was a three-year letter winner for the Buckeyes from 1971-73 and helped lead the Buckeyes to the 1971 Big Ten title. He averaged more than 20 points in each of his three seasons and finished his career with 1,572 points, which still ranks 13th in program history.
Known as the "Bellaire Bomber", Hornyak came to Ohio State after averaging over 40 points per game at St. John's Central in Bellaire, Ohio. He earned first team All-Big Ten honors in each of his three collegiate seasons and was an All-American in both 1972 and 1973.
Hornyak was one of the best scorers Ohio has ever produced and that spans both high school and college. He once scored 86 points in a high school game and also put up 37 points against rival Michigan in 1971 with 17 of those points coming in the first 5:20 of the game.
Following his successful career at Ohio State, Hornyak was chosen by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round (26th overall) of the 1973 NBA draft. He was later inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.
