COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 3 Ohio State, the defending Big Ten regular-season and tournament champion, opens the 2025 season at Virginia Tech Thursday (6 p.m./ACCN) with Brian Maisonneuve at the helm for his eighth season in Columbus.
- Maisonneuve earned Big Ten Coach of the Year honors in 2024. The entire Ohio State coaching staff earned National Coaching Staff of the Year honors as well
- Maisonneuve led the Buckeyes to their second College Cup appearance in program history in 2024 with a 16-2-4 overall record
- Ohio State is in its 73rd season of men's soccer on the Ohio State campus
- The Buckeyes have been a member of the Big Ten Conference in men's soccer for 35 seasons
- Ohio State owns five Big Ten regular-season titles and four league tournament crowns after winning both in 2024Â
- The College Soccer Coaches voted Ohio State No. 3 in the 2025 preseason poll, the highest preseason ranking in program history
- All-time, Ohio State has 495 wins entering 2025
- Returning in 2025 is two of the Top 4 scorers from 2024 in seniors Luciano Pechota (5g/7a) and Marko Borkovic (5g/5a)
- Both were named Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch along with graduate defender Thomas Gilej
- Also back is senior keeper Max Trejo, who led the nation a year ago in goals against average (.533) with an overall record of 10-1-2
- Nathan Demian, Pechota and Gilej were named 2025 Captains following a vote of their teammates
- New to the roster in 2025 are Ohio natives Martin McLaughlin (D, Broadview Heights) and Justis Olorunto (D, Akron). The pair join fellow freshmen Aaron Hurge (M, Bethesda, Maryland), Michael Ndiweni (F, Chester-Le-Street, United Kingdom) and Nyle Waugh (Miami, Florida). Transfers Anthony Faupel (F, St. Louis), Joel Demian (D, Vancouver) and Will Arnesen (F, Copenhagen, Denmark) also are new to the roster this season
- Ohio State begins the home portion of the 2025 Schedule In the annual Wolstein Classic Aug. 28 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Buckeyes open with Oakland (7 p.m./B1G+) before facing Temple Aug. 31 (7 p.m./B1G+). Dayton will take on Templa Aug. 28 (4 p.m./B1G+) and Oakland Aug. 31 (4 p.m./B1G+).Â
- The Big Ten Network will broadcast three Ohio State home matches this season. The network will be in Columbus for matches against UCLA (Sept. 29/6 p.m.), Michigan (Oct. 18/6 p.m.) and Maryland (Oct. 18/noon).Â
