COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 6 Ohio State will host No. 12 Mississippi State in the super regional round of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship this Saturday at the Auer Tennis Complex. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals in Waco, Texas next week. First serve is scheduled for noon on Saturday.
Admission and parking are free for the match.
- This will be the third meeting all-time between Mississippi State and Ohio State in the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes beat the Bulldogs last year in the super regional round in Columbus 4-1. The teams also met in the quarterfinals in 2018 in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Buckeyes won a great 4-3 match and would go on to advance to the championship match that season.
- Overall, this will be just the fifth meeting between the two programs. MSU won a neutral site matchup in 1991 and then the Buckeyes won at home in 2012, in 2018 in Winston-Salem and again at home last May.
- The Buckeyes are 28-3 on the season and the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament. They opened the tournament with a 4-0 sweep of Buffalo last Friday and then took down Auburn 4-1 in the second round on Saturday.
- Mississippi State is 24-5 overall on the season. The Bulldogs received the No. 12 seed and swept both New Orleans and Michigan State in the first two rounds in Starkville last weekend.
- The Buckeyes are looking to advance to the final site for the 19th consecutive season.
- The winner of Saturday’s match will play the winner of the match between No. 4 seed Stanford and No. 13 seed South Carolina on Friday in Waco.
- Ohio State is 40-0 in NCAA Tournament matches at home in Columbus.
- 14 of the 16 seeds in the tournament held serve at home last weekend and advanced to the super regional round. The two unseeded teams in the round of 16 are Big Ten members UCLA and USC.
