COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the 18th time in the last 19 season, the Ohio State men’s tennis team will host first and second round matches of the NCAA Tournament this weekend at the Auer Tennis Complex.
The Buckeyes will open against Buffalo in the first round on Saturday afternoon while Auburn and Belmont will play in the other first round match on Saturday morning. The winners will meet in the second round on Sunday at noon.
Admission and parking are free for all matches this weekend, including the women’s first and second round matches as well.
- This is the 25th time the Buckeyes have been selected for the NCAA Championship with every appearance coming under the direction of head coach Ty Tucker. OSU is 26-3 overall and 13-0 in conference play.
- Last year, Ohio State swept Cleveland State in the first round of the tournament and followed that with wins over Oklahoma State, Mississippi State, and Columbia. The Buckeyes fell to TCU in the semifinals
- Ohio State has an overall record of 71-24 in the NCAA Tournament with runner-up finishes in 2009, 2018 and 2023.
- The Buckeyes are hosting opening round matches for the 18th time in the last 19 seasons. The Buckeyes have advanced past the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament 20 times in its previous 24 appearances and have won at least one match in every year but one.
- This will be the second meeting in the NCAA Tournament between Buffalo and Ohio State. The Buckeyes swept the Bulls 4-0 in the opening round of the tournament in 2015. The final site that season was in Waco, Texas, the same as this season.
- Buffalo is 18-5 on the season and are coming off of a 4-2 championship win against Western Michigan in the MAC Tournament.
- Ohio State has faced Auburn four times, and the all-time series record is split at 2-2. The last time the teams went head-to-head was in the 2015 season when the Buckeyes swept Auburn 4-0 in Columbus.
- Auburn is 19-10 overall and was 7-7 in SEC play.
- If Belmont is victorious, this will be the first ever meeting between the Buckeyes and the Bruins. Belmont won the Horizon League Tournament Championship and was undefeated in conference play. They are 13-10 overall on the season and currently on a 7-match winning streak.
- Ohio State is ranked No. 6 in the latest team rankings and has four players in the singles rankings. Aidan Kim leads the way at No. 11 while Alexander Bernard bumps up one spot to No. 61. Bryce Nakashima earned his first ranking of the year at No. 97 and Jack Anthrop is No. 120.
