Buckeyes Open NCAA Tournament with 4-0 Sweep of Buffalo

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 5 seed Ohio State opened the 2025 NCAA Tournament on Saturday with a 4-0 sweep of Buffalo. The Buckeyes advance to the second round to face Auburn on Sunday.
Rain on Saturday pushed in the match inside the Ty Tucker Tennis Center where the Buckeyes are now 18-0 this season. They improve to 27-3 overall on the year.
The Buckeyes won a quick doubles point and then won all six opening sets in singles and the race was on for the final three points.
Doubles
- Nikita Filin and Brandon Carpico have been great all spring and showed their form against on Saturday. They rolled to a 6-2 win over Theodoros Mitsakos and Clement Mainguy on court three for the first doubles win.
- The clinching point came on court one from Will Jansen and Aidan Kim as they bested Michael Malkin and Yu-Shiang Huang 6-4.
Singles
- The singles point came nearly as quick as the doubles point. The Buckeyes won all six first sets and had little trouble securing the three wins.
- Bryce Nakashima was the first done, as he dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Faiz Masyam on court five.
- Jack Anthrop followed just a minute later with his 6-2, 6-2 win over Daniils Snaiders on court four for his 28th singles win on the year.
- The clinching point was between Jansen and Filin on courts three and six. Jansen was on match point and held his serve until Filin was also on match point. But Jansen then served an ace and finished first before Filin started his point. A bit unfortunate for Filin who was celebrating a birthday on Saturday and an NCAA singles win would have been a nice present.
- Jansen won 6-3, 6-2 and Filin was up 6-3, 5-3.
Up Next
Ohio State will play Auburn in the second round on Sunday at noon. The winner will advance to the super regional round next weekend.
