COLUMBUS, Ohio – Former Ohio State All-American Maxwell Moldovan claimed his first professional victory this week, winning the 70th ECP Brazil Open on the PGA TOUR Americas.
Moldovan, a 2024 graduate and three-time All-American, made a 50-foot double-breaking eagle putt on the 18th hole Sunday to beat George Markham by one shot at 18-under par.
Playing on the Rio Olympic Cours in Rio De Janeiro, Moldovan opened his week with a bogey-free round of 8-under 63. He then shot 67-68 on Friday and Saturday to remain in the Top 5. On Sunday, he made bogey at No. 11 to fall to 1-over on the day and one-off the pace. He then birdied Nos. 13 and 17 to stay in the mix and the closing eagle gave him the title.
The win was the first professional PGA TOUR win for a Buckeye in since Bo Hoag won the WinCo Farms Portland Open on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2019. Fellow 2024 graduate Adam Wallin won on the Nordic Golf League in February.
Moldovan earned his PGA TOUR Americas status via PGA TOUR U at the end of his collegiate career in May of 2024. He played the North America Swing last year and the Brazil Open was just the second event of the 2025 season. The Top 10 players on the final Fortinet Cup Standings will earn exempt Korn Ferry Tour membership for next season. In addition to 10 exempt Korn Ferry Tour cards via the season-long points race, up to five conditional Korn Ferry Tour cards are available to the top two finishers in the Latin America Swing and the top three finishers in the North America Swing.
Moldovan was one of the most decorated players in Ohio State history. His 71.25 career scoring average is the lowest in program history by nearly a full shot and he also finished with the most career rounds in the 60s and the most rounds at par of better.
