Buckeyes In a Nutshell
- Ohio State is tied for first in the Big Ten with a 2-0 record after defeating Rutgers, 13-11, last weekend at home. For the first time since 2015 the Buckeyes have won their first two conference games of the season.
- The team remains third in both the media and coaches' polls this week. The ranking is tied for the highest in program history. The last time Ohio State was ranked third in the country was during the 2017 season. The Buckeyes have been ranked for the last six weeks and have been voted top 10 for the last four.
- Jack McKenna and Caleb Fyock were named Big Ten Players of the Week following the win over Rutgers. McKenna had a Buckeye-career high game, recording two goals and three assists for five points on the day. Fyock made a career-best 19 saves in the win.
- Fyock, a sophomore from Bowie, Md., is first in the Big Ten and second nationally with a 6.83 goals-against average and .629 save percentage. He is 10-0 between the pipes for the Buckeyes this year.
- McKenna leads the team with nine points in conference play. He has a team-high six assists and is tied for third with three goals in two games.
- Ohio State paces the Big Ten with 13.3 goals per game. Senior attackman Alex Marinier averages a league-leading 3.1 goals per game and has a team and conference high 34 goals on the year. Garrett Haas, a sophomore attacker, joins Marinier in the top 10 among Big Ten players with 1.70 goals per game. Both players have a goal in all but one game this season.
- On the other side of the field, the Ohio State defense has held five opponents this season to five or less goals and seven teams to their lowest scoring performances of the year. The Buckeyes are second in the league and seventh in the country with a goals-against average of 8.36. They are also the Big Ten leader in caused turnovers per game in the team and individual category with 11.09 per game overall and junior defenseman Cullen Brown averaging 2.36 a game.
- Jack Oldman leads the way at the faceoff X for Ohio State with a .546 win percentage (118-for-216). He is one of four FOGOs in the conference with over 100 faceoff wins this year. The Pickering, Ontario native is second in the Big Ten with 7.9 ground balls per game.
- Ohio State is outscoring its opponents by nearly five goals per game. The mark (4.91) is the largest in the conference and top 10 in the country.
- The team's 10-1 record is the best 11-game start to a season for the program since 1978. It is also just the 14th time a team has earned 10 wins in a season in the 76-year history of the program.
- Saturday is the 19th meeting between Ohio State and Johns Hopkins in the series that started in 1999.
- Ohio State has seven wins in the series, with the last being a 12-10 victory in Columbus during the 2022 season.
- The Buckeyes' last win over the Blue Jays in Baltimore was in 2021 when the team won 14-8 in the conference-only season opener.
- As Big Ten opponents, the teams have faced off 13 times ahead of Saturday. Ohio State has a 7-6 advantage in the series as conference foes.
- Ohio State hosts its final home game of the regular season on Saturday, April 12 against No. 2 Maryland.
