Buckeyes get homers from Hadley Parisien and Taylor Cuse in 2-0 shutout of Purdue
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team finished its 2025 home schedule on a winning note Sunday, using solo home runs from Hadley Parisien and Taylor Cruse along with a combined shutout from pitchers Lorin Boutte and Kennedy Kay to register a 2-0 win over Purdue.
The Buckeyes (41-10-1, 14-5 Big Ten), winners of nine consecutive games, celebrated three seniors in front of a sold-out crowd on Sunday: Kami Kortokrax, Kaitlyn Farley and Morgan Frye. It was a pair of sophomores – Cruse and Parisien – who provided the offense while the Ohio State defense and pitching limited the Boilermakers to just three hits.
Ohio State concluded its home schedule with a 19-3 record with Big Ten series wins over Indiana, Michigan and Purdue. Sunday's crowd was Ohio State's fourth sellout of the season.
How The Runs Were Scored
- The game remained offensively quiet for the first two and a half innings, as neither team got on the scoreboard. Cruse, however, provided the first offense of the game, sending a solo home run over the left field wall to put the Buckeyes up 1-0. It was the second homer in as many days for Cruse, who drove in nine runs throughout the Purdue series.
- The score remained 1-0 in Ohio State's favor into the fifth inning when Hadley Parisien provided the Buckeyes with some insurance, sending her own solo shot to left.
- The blast was Parisien's 19th of the year, second on the team to only Jasmyn Burns (22). It also extended her active on-base streak to 12 consecutive games.
- The offense proved sufficient for the Buckeyes thanks to the pitching of Boutte and Kennedy, who combined to complete the shutout.
- Boutté got the start and the win for the Buckeyes, tossing five innings and allowing only two hits. She is now 18-7 on the season. In the sixth innings, Boutte was relieved by Kay, who threw two scoreless frames, allowing only one hit.
