
Buckeye Lacrosse Completes Historic Regular Season

The postseason is here for the No. 4 Ohio State men’s lacrosse team. The Buckeyes finished the 2025 regular season 12-2 and 4-1 in Big Ten play, winning the program’s first Big Ten title and earning the top seed in the conference tournament for a spot in the semifinals.
As the team starts its postseason preparation, take a look back at the team’s historic regular season:
Momentous Wins
In its first game against a ranked opponent of the season, unranked Ohio State defeated then-ranked No. 12 Virginia, 14-5, at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium. The win over the Cavaliers was just the team’s second in the all-time series with the first coming in 2012.

Following the Virginia win, the Buckeyes entered the national rankings at No. 16. The team went on to defeat Bryant, 7-5, for its sixth straight win to close the seven-game season-opening homestand with a 6-1 record.
Ohio State’s first road test of the season was against the two-time defending national champion and No. 2 ranked Notre Dame. In a game that came down to the final seconds, the Buckeyes defeated the Fighting Irish, 10-9. The win was the fourth in the last six meetings against Notre Dame for Ohio State and the first win in South Bend for the Buckeyes since 2019.

Ohio State continued its road season at Denver the following week and defeated the Pioneers, 15-11, for its eighth straight win. The victory marked the first for the team at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium since 2009 and the first in the series for the Buckeyes since 2017. Ohio State closed its regular season non-conference schedule with an 8-1 ledger.
The Big Ten schedule started on the road at No. 4 Penn State. The Buckeyes, who hadn’t won in Happy Valley since 2015, knocked off the Nittany Lions, 13-9, to open league play.

Back home for the first time in four weeks, Ohio State downed Rutgers, 13-11. The senior day victory marked the Buckeyes’ 10th straight win, giving the team its first double digit win season since 2017. Ohio State’s 10-1 record at this point in the season marked the program’s best start to a campaign since 1978.
A 14-10 win at Johns Hopkins put the Buckeyes 3-0 to start Big Ten play since the league started in 2015. It was the team’s first victory over the Blue Jays in Baltimore since 2021.
The team suffered its lone Big Ten Conference loss to Maryland before rebounding with a 10-8 win over No. 12 Michigan in Ann Arbor to close the regular season. The rivalry win over the Wolverines secured Ohio State’s first Big Ten regular season title in program history and the first win at U-M Lacrosse Stadium since 2021. In addition to the Big Ten championship, Ohio State won the Creator’s Trophy for the first time since 2022 and fourth time in the trophy’s 14-year history.

2 Ohio State earned a program-record No. 2 ranking in the media and coaches’ polls during the regular season. Unranked entering the year, the Buckeyes earned top 20 rankings for the final eight weeks of the regular season, with top 10 rankings the final six.
3 The Buckeyes defeated three of last season’s Final Four teams during the 2025 regular season. Ohio State is the only team in the country to play all four 2024 Final Four teams in the regular season.
4 The team finished the conference schedule with four Big Ten wins, the most by the program in the 10-year history of the league.
5-0 The Buckeyes finished the 2025 regular season undefeated on the road in five trips
8 Eight players scored in double figures, leading the country.
11 The team put together an 11-game win streak that included four wins over ranked opponents. The streak tied for the third longest in program history.
12-2 The team’s 12 wins in the regular season are the most since 2017. This year is just the 14th 10-win season in the program’s 76-year history
2,854 The Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium attendance record was broken April 12 with 2,854 fans on hand for the top 10 Big Ten matchup between Ohio State and Maryland.
B1G Leaders
Ohio State finished the regular season leading the Big Ten in caused turnovers per game (10.15), ground balls per game (33.08), scoring margin (4.08) and scoring offense (12.92). The team also paced the conference with 10.2 goals per game, a .341 shot percentage, and a .558 shots on goal percentage in league play.
Senior attackman Alex Marinier led the conference with 41 goals in the regular season. He and Garrett Haas finished top two in the conference shooting over 40 percent.
Cullen Brown’s program record 31 caused turnovers in the regular season led the conference. Faceoff specialist Jack Oldman led the league with 104 ground balls.

Ohio State will play in the 2025 Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse Tournament semifinals on Thursday, May 1 at 5 p.m. The Buckeyes will face off against the winner of the quarterfinal game between Michigan and Rutgers. This year is the team’s fifth trip to the tournament semifinal round and first since 2022.
