Ohio State Falls to West Virginia, 9-6

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team (8-17) was defeated by West Virginia (23-4), 9-6, on Tuesday night at Bill Davis Stadium.
Game Recap
- The Buckeyes took the first lead of the in the bottom of the first inning, getting ahead of the Mountaineers 1-0 after a 405-foot home run from Lee Ellis.
- In the top of the second inning, West Virginia scored on a wild pitch to knot the score, 1-1.
- In the bottom of the second, Matthew Graveline went yard, blasting the ball 427 feet over the left field wall to put the Buckeyes back in the lead, 2-1.
- In the top of the third inning, the Mountaineers tied the game, 2-2, after an RBI single.
- West Virginia plated four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 6-2 lead over the Buckeyes.
- In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Buckeyes cut the West Virginia lead to two, 6-4, after a fielder's choice RBI from Reggie Bussey and an RBI groundout from Sal Mineo.
- The Mountaineers scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth to extend their lead, 9-4.
- A sac fly from Tyler Pettorini sent Maddix Simpson home in the bottom of the seventh to bring the Buckeyes within four runs of the Mountaineers, 9-5.
- In the bottom of the eighth inning, back-to-back singles from Mason Eckelman and Graveline put two runners on. A sac bunt from Bussey advanced them both into scoring position. A groundout from Mineo scored Eckelman to cut the West Virginia lead to three, -6.
- Douglas Bauer fanned two of three faced in the top of the eighth to bring the Buckeyes to the home half, but they went down in order and the Mountaineers came away with the win.
- Graveline and Eckelman led the team with two hits each.
- Mineo led the team in RBIs with two, which is a career-high.
- Zak Sigman made his first collegiate start on the mound. He struck out a career-high three and allowed two runs on four hits in 2.1 innings pitched.
- Charlie Giese (0-1) took the loss. He allowed four runs on three hits in 1.1 innings tossed.
- Bauer fanned four in 2.0 innings pitched and did not allow any runs or hits.
- The Buckeyes head to the West Coast to face USC for the first time since the Trojans joined the Big Ten this Friday-Sunday.
