COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the second consecutive week, Ohio State finished atop the leaderboard as the Buckeyes won the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate on Saturday at the OSU Golf Club.
The win was the 26th for Ohio State in the 53-year history the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate.
This was also the second-consecutive win for the Buckeyes who won the Buckeye Classic last weekend at Columbus Country Club. Ohio State won back-to-back stroke play events for the first time since the 1997-98 season.
The Buckeyes entered the final round three shots off the pace after a tough first day which saw breezy conditions and high scores. But the Buckeyes got off to a fast start and quickly erased the deficit. A couple of bogey midway through the back nine allowed Nebraska to close the gap but three birdies from on No. 16 from Tyler Sabo, Joe Wilson IV and Vaughn Snyder in three-consecutive groups gave the Buckeyes the cushion they needed to secure the victory.
Individually, Topher Reed, who was playing as an individual this weekend, notched his first runner-up finish with a career-best 56-hole score of 214 following rounds of 73-71-70. He made a pair of birdies and an eagle in his final round.
Timotej Formanek followed his previous career-best finish last week at the Buckeye Classic with a fourth-place finish this week. He carded rounds of 73-70-73 to finish at 3-over par.
Fellow freshman Vaughn Herber had rounds of 74-72-72 and finished in eighth place at 5-over par. This was his second-consecutive Top 10 finish.
Joe Wilson IV posted a final round 70 and finished in a tie for 12th at 8-over par. Tyler Sabo was the third Buckeye with a 1-under 70 on Saturday as he finished in 14th place at 9-over par. Drew Mulcahy also tied with Sabo for 14th at 9-over as he posted rounds of 71-74-77.
Tyler Groomes carded an opening round 71 on Friday morning and finished with rounds of 77-80 to finish in a tie for 33rd. Jack Vojtko had a bit of rough day on Friday but rebounded with a 72 on Saturday to finish at 16-over par.
The Buckeyes will now head to the Big Ten Championship next weekend at Baltimore Country Club in Baltimore, Md.
