Ohio State Wins The Buckeye Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team claimed its first victory of the season, winning the Buckeye Classic at Columbus Country Club by one shot over rival Michigan.
The Buckeyes and Wolverines battled back-and-forth all day, exchanging the lead multiple times. Ohio State took control midway through the back nine with birdies on holes 14 and 15 and held on down the stretch. Ohio State finished at 18-under par following a final round 282.
Freshman Vaughn Harber posted the best finish of his career as he shot rounds of 70-68-72 to finish fourth at 6-under par.
Jack Vojtko carded three under-par rounds of 71-69-71 and finished at 5-under par and in seventh place. This was his first full field event in which he was under-par in all three rounds.
Freshman Timotej Formanek finished tied for 13th, the best of his season, after rounds of 71-69-75 (-1).
Tyler Sabo was 5-over through 15 holes on Friday but then played his final 39 holes at 3-under par, including a final round 70, which included five birdies. He finished tied for 22nd.
Joe Wilson IV also finished tied for 22nd as he led the Buckeyes with a 3-under 69 on Saturday. He had three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 10th in the final round.
Playing as individuals, Drew Mulcahy and Topher Reed each finished with their lowest rounds of the weekend, a 1-over 73 on Saturday. Tyler Groomes led the individuals as he shot rounds of 73-71-78 to finish 42nd at 6-over par.
The Buckeyes will remain at home and host the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate next weekend at the OSU Golf Club’s Scarlet Course. The first 36 holes will be played on Friday, and the final round will be on Saturday.
