Botello finishes second to pace Ohio State
COLUMBUS, Ohio – At the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships hosted by Denison University Saturday in Granville, Ohio, the Ohio State fencing program compiled 15 Top 8 finishes. Five Buckeyes placed in the Top 3 – Natalia Botello was second in women's sabre, while Gloria Klughardt (women's epee), Alina Lee (women's foil), Nolan Williams (men's sabre) and Solin Li (men's foil) all earned third place finishes.

Women's Epee
All four Buckeyes advanced to the final pool. Gloria Klughardt was 7-4, with a +12 indicator, in the last pool and finished in third place. Marie-Frederique Millette won five bouts (-8) to place eighth. Julia Semikin and Lucy Whittemore also advanced out of the initial pool.

All four Buckeyes advanced through the first two rounds of pools. Gabriel Feinberg placed fourth with a 7-4 record in the final pool (+12 indicator). Miles Weiss was fifth, going 6-5 with a +3 indicator, followed by Nowell Gibson in sixth, who was also 6-5 (+1). Viktor Kulcsar rounded out the Buckeyes in the final pool.

The four Buckeye foilists advanced to the final pool and finished in the Top 8. Both Solin Li (+16) and Ilya Ayupov (+4) won 7 of 11 bouts in the last pool to finish third and fifth, respectively. Justin Vogler (+1) and Lorenzo Mion (-4) were each 5-6 and placed seventh and eighth, respectively.

Nolan Williams was 10-3 on the day (+22) to finish third in men's sabre, which had one round of pools. Three other Buckeyes earned a Top 8 spot – Samuel Rightler (+15) and Avin Rai (+9) were both 8-5 and Kelly Liu was 7-6 (-4).

NCAA Championships Up Next
- The 2025 NCAA Fencing Championships will be held March 20-23 in University Park, Pa., hosted by Penn State.
- The athletes selected for the NCAA Championships will be announced on NCAA.com March 11.
- Qualification to the NCAA Championships is based on regular season results and NCAA regional finish. No more than two fencers per gender per weapon from a school may be selected.
- Each region is allocated a certain number of spots for the NCAA Championships, with 144 total competitors selected. This year, the Midwest Region has six NCAA allocations in men's epee, men's sabre and women's foil and five in men's foil, women's epee and women's sabre. All six weapons will also have two at-large spots.
