COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 3 Ohio State is set to take on Penn State in its first Big Ten matchup of the year. The contest will be held at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center this Saturday and first serve is set for noon.
Admission and parking are free for all men’s tennis matches.
- Saturday’s match will be the first of the new 13-match Big Ten schedule. Ohio State has won 18 consecutive Big Ten titles dating back to 2006.
- Ohio State and Penn State are meeting for the 43rd time. The Buckeyes are 36-6 vs. the Nittany Lions all time with the first matchup dating back to the 1985 season.
- The Buckeyes have not lost to the Nittany Lions since 1999 and have won 28 consecutive matches against the Nittany Lions.
- Last season, the Buckeyes swept Penn State 7-0 during the regular season match and then beat them 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. Those sweeps marked the 13th and 14th sweeps in the last 18 meetings between the two teams.
- The Nittany Lions have had a good start to the season as they are 11-2 overall. Their two losses have come against Yale and Columbia.
- Ohio State is currently 8-0 at home and 11-2 overall. The Buckeyes are coming off a 4-0 sweep of No. 20 Illinois in a non-conference match on Wednesday.
- Aidan Kim, who is ranked No. 10 in the latest ITA rankings, rolled to an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win over No. 12 Kenta Miyoshi in the showcase match vs. Illinois Wednesday.
- Three Buckeyes are ranked in the latest ITA singles rankings. Kim is ranked No. 10, Alexander Bernard is ranked No. 50, and Jack Anthrop is ranked No. 74.
