Buckeyes In a Nutshell
- Ohio State finished its regular season non-conference schedule 8-1. The team defeated Denver, 15-11, last week for its eighth consecutive win. The win was the team's first over Denver since 2017 and first at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium since 2009.
- With the win over the Pioneers, the Buckeyes are now 3-0 against 2024 Final Four teams. Ohio State is the only team that plays all four teams this season, with the fourth matchup against No. 1 Maryland set for April 12 in Columbus.
- Sunday's game is the team's third consecutive road contest. The team is 2-0 on the road this season with wins at Notre Dame and Denver.
- The Buckeyes remain ninth in this week's USILA poll. The team has been ranked in the national polls for the last four weeks and the top 10 for the last two weeks.
- Ohio State, and the Big Ten, are led in scoring by senior attackman Alex Marinier. He has recorded a league-best 30 points and 29 goals on the season. He averages 3.3 points per game for the Buckeyes and is one of four players in the conference to record a goal man-down and is tied for second with three man-up goals this season.
- Sophomore goaltender Caleb Fyock is 8-0 in net for the Buckeyes. His 6.00 goals against average is the second-best in the country. The Bowie, Md. native has earned a .623 save percentage, g00d for fourth nationally.
- Jack Oldman is .560 (93-166) at the faceoff. He leads the team with 68 ground balls and his 7.56 per game average paces the Big Ten and ranks seventh in the country. Oldman has went over 50 percent from the faceoff X in six of the Buckeyes' nine games this year.
- Cullen Brown continues to lead the team, and league, with 21 caused turnovers on the year. His 2.33 per game mark is top 10 in the country.
- Ohio State has seen 15 players score a goal so far this season. In addition to Marinier, Buckeyes with over 10 goals this season are Garrett Haas (14), Ryan Donnery (13), Ed Shean (11) and Shane O'Leary (11). Fourteen of the 15 goal scorers have multiple goals on the year.
- The Buckeyes' defense has stifled some of the top offenses in the country in 2025. The unit is fifth in the country in scoring defense (8.00) and is fifth in caused turnovers per game (11.33). Ohio State has held five of its opponents this season to five or less goals.
- Sunday marks the 29th meeting in the all-time series between the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions.
- Ohio State has seven wins in the series and is looking for its first over Penn State since an 18-9 win in Columbus in the 2022 season.
- The series started in 1979 and the teams have faced off nearly every year since 2003.
- Sunday's game marks the start of the team's quest for the Creator's Trophy.
- The award, established in 2012 by Ohio State head coach Nick Myers and his counterparts at Penn State (Jeff Tambroni) and Michigan (John Paul), is contested annually between the three schools who were the only programs in the Big Ten at the time.
- A team that earns a 2-0 record against the other programs will take ownership of the trophy each spring and have its name and the year inscribed. If two teams earn a 1-1 record, the trophy will go to the head-to-head winner. If all teams finish 1-1, then no team or year will be recorded on the trophy and it will reside with the most recent team to win it outright.
- Ohio State is looking to bring the trophy back to Columbus for the first time since 2022. The Buckeyes have won the trophy three times.
- Ohio State has two more home games of the regular season schedule remaining. The Buckeyes will play Big Ten Conference home games vs. Rutgers (March 29) and Maryland (April 12).
