Buckeyes Conclude First Outdoor Meet with Strong Performances

Ohio State wrapped up the opening outdoor meet at USF on Saturday with 19 total top 10 finishes.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – After having six top 10 finishes and the same number of personal records broken on day one of the USF Invite, the Buckeyes inflated those numbers to 19 top 10 finishes and 11 personal record breaks after strong performances to close out the opening weekend for the outdoor track and field season on Saturday.

DAY TWO OVERVIEW
Top Five Finishes
The men's (Nick Biega, Nazzio John, Denzell Feagin and Dominic Calhoun) and women's (Bobbi Olive, Fatouma Conde, Janela Spencer and Leah Bertrand) 4x100 relay teams each placed third overall with the men completing their event in 39.56 seconds and the women recording a time of 44.31 seconds. Devin Jordan tied for the fifth best men's high jump performance with a cleared height of 2.00m/6'6.75". Tanner Watson finished third (56.49m/185'4") in the men's discus throw. Braxton Brann rounded out the top five in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 13.84 seconds. Amaya Ugarte tied for the second-best height clearance of 1.78m/5'10" in the women's high jump.

Personal Records
Amelia Figler (4:33.50) set a new personal record in the women's 1500m, shattering her previous one of 4:54.76 (2024 USF Invite). In the men's 1500m, Cooper Citro recorded a time of 3:56.57. Just like Figler, Citro set a new PR with his previous best (4:04.06) also happening at last year's USF Invite. Conde and Jalaia Creary each set personal bests in the women's 400m after Conde placed seventh with a time of 54.07 seconds and Creary finished in 57.99 seconds. Conde's previous PR was 54.86 (2024 Jesse Owens Classic) while Creary's previous best was 1:02.10, taking place at the Rod McCravy Memorial this year. Biega set a new personal best of 10.33 seconds, shaving off 0.34 seconds and placing seventh in the men's 100m.

Sophie Fong tied for fourth in the women's pole vault, securing a new personal best of 4.10m/13'5.25" and beating her previous record by 0.4 meters. Sydnee Burr finished fourth in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.88m/19'3.50". Michael Lunsford (16.50m/54'1.75") and Dylan Chittum (15.90m/52'2") each recorded personal bests in the men's shot put, marking the second time in 2025 where the two throwers each PR'd in the same event at the same meet (PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational). Lilly Eckels finished seventh (2:09.50) in the women's 800m. Citro shaved off 0.16 seconds off his 800m time, earning a new personal best of 1:53.63. Michaela McCall hit a new PR in the women's 200m (24.25). Lacey Stringer had the seventh best hammer throw of 56.49m/185'0". DJ Fillmore finished with the third best men's long jump distance (7.52m/24'8.25"). In the men's 200m, Noah Carmichael had the ninth fastest time (21.04) and was joined by Nick Robinson (21.99) in having a new personal record.

The Buckeyes will be split up next weekend between the Raleigh and Texas Relays. The Raleigh Relays, hosted by N.C. State, will take place Thursday, March 27 through Saturday, March 29 in Raleigh N.C. The Texas Relays will be hosted by the University of Texas and will happen on Friday and Saturday in Austin, Texas. More information about each meet will be sent out later this coming week.

DAY TWO FIELD RESULTS
- Men's high jump: Jordan cleared three heights in a row on the first try, tying for fifth best performance of 2.00m/6'6.75". Sean Kaminski finished 11th after clearing 1.90m/6'2.75" on his third attempt.
- Men's discus throw: Watson led the Buckeye men with the third best toss of 56.49m/185'4", coming from his fourth of six total attempts. Jack Knapke's throw of 48.82m/160'2", good for 13th place, came on his third attempt out. Lawson Maag recorded a distance of 46.41m/152'3" and Braden Wakey rounded out the Buckeye men with 39.32m/129'0", each occurring on their first attempt.
- Women's high jump: Ugarte tied for the second-best height clearance of 1.78m/5'10".
- Women's discus throw: Morgan Hallett placed ninth (45.15m/148'1") off her first of six throws and Sophie Bidwell tossed 43.35m/142'2" on her third and final attempt.
DAY TWO TRACK RESULTS
- Women's 4x100 relay: A team consisting of Olive, Conde, Spencer and Bertrand finished third with a time of 44.31 seconds.
- Men's 4x100 relay: The men's team (Biega, John, Feagin and Calhoun) also placed third, completing the relay in 39.56 seconds.
- Women's 1500m: Out of 59 total athletes, all Ohio State competitors placed in the top 20 with Carina Napoleon leading the pack in 13th (4:32.55). Katie Castelli finished right behind Napoleon with a time of 4:32.92 (14th). Figler had the 17th best time, destroying her personal record with a 4:33.50. Previously, her personal best was 4:54.76, which she earned at last year's USF Invite. Lilly Eckels rounded out the Buckeye women with a time of 4:36.43, finishing 19th.
- Men's 1500m: Similar to Figler, Citro also broke his personal 1500m record that occurred at last year's USF Invite. Today, he finished 14th in a field of 49 athletes with a time of 3:56.57. His personal record from last year was 4:04.06.
- Women's 100m hurdles: Spencer placed sixth out of 41 registered athletes after running a 13.79 and Katie Ruffener was 15th with a time of 14.09 seconds.
- Men's 110m hurdles: Brann had a top five finish (13.84, fifth) and Malik Mixon had a time of 14.99 seconds.
- Women's 400m: Conde (seventh, 54.07) and Creary (57.99) each hit a new personal best with Conde previously having a time of 54.86 seconds (2024 Jessie Owens Classic) and Creary running a 1:02.10 at the Rod McCravy Memorial earlier this year.
- Women's 100m: Olive placed 10th out of 70 registered athletes with a time of 11.70 seconds.
- Men's 100m: Biega had the seventh best time of 10.33 seconds, good for a PR (previously 10.67). John, also a top 10 finisher, came in ninth (10.35) while freshman Calhoun made his debut, recording a time of 10.56 seconds.
- Women's 4x400m relay: The Buckeye women's relay squad finished in 3:53.87.
- Men's 4x400m relay: The Buckeyes had two squads participate in the event with the A relay placing seventh (3:09.84) and the B squad rounding out the top 10 with a time of 3:12.35.
DAY ONE FIELD RESULTS
- Men's javelin throw: Braden Wakey finished second in his heat and 11th overall with a distance of 52.95m/173'8".
- Women's pole vault: Fong tied for the fourth best height clearance with a personal record of 4.10m/13'5.25". Morgan Fijalkowski placed in the top 15 by clearing a height of 3.75m/12'3.25" and Veronica Waugaman finished by clearing a personal best 3.60m/11'9.75".
- Men's hammer throw: Lawson Maag tossed a 47.60m/156'2".
- Women's long jump: Burr had the fourth best distance (5.88m/19'3.50") and Myle recorded a 5.47m/17'11.50" jump.
- Men's shot put: Lunsford (16.50m/54'1.75") and Chittum (15.90m/52'2") each tossed personal bests.
- Women's hammer throw: Stringer placed seventh with a throw of 56.49m/185'0", while Morgan Hallett recorded a best throw of 49.46m/162'3".
- Men's pole vault: Daniel Edwards tied for the 14th best vault, clearing 4.86m/15'11.25".
- Men's long jump: Fillmore had the third best distance, gaining 7.52m/24'8.25". Kellon tied for the 14th best performance (7.01m/23'0") and Ibrahim Khairat finished with 6.73m/22'1".
- Women's shot put: Morgan Hallett had the 14th best throw, tossing 13.83m/45'4.50".
DAY ONE TRACK RESULTS
- Women's 400m hurdles: Olivia Powell led the Buckeye women with a time of 1:01.01, while Katie Ruffener (1:04.47) and Smith (1:07.22) finished behind her.
- Men's 400m hurdles: Malik Mixon finished in 55.23 seconds with Sopuluchi Anosike following with 57.32.
- Women's 800m: Eckels placed seventh with a time of 2:09.50 and Carina Napoleon had the 12th best time of 2:10.10.
- Men's 800m: Eckert finished in 1:53.09, good for 15th, while Citro earned a new personal record of 1:53.63.
- Women's 200m: Olive (24.15) and McCall (24.25) finished closely with each other, while freshman Armstrong made her collegiate debut, finishing in 25.96 seconds. McCall set a new personal best, shaving off more than a half second.
- Men's 200m: Carmichael placed ninth with a personal best time of 21.04, beating out his previous record of 21.69. Feagin finished in 21.61 seconds and Robinson set a new personal record of 21.99 seconds.
