
Buckeye Men Wrap Up NCAA Championship Day Two

Six Ohio State men’s fencers competed in the national championships
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The men's competition at the 2025 NCAA Championships, hosted by Penn State in University Park, Pa., wrapped up Friday. Six Buckeyes – two in each weapon – competed in the event. Solin Li led the way, garnering Honorable Mention All-America honors with an 11th-place finish in foil.

The women's championships will be held Saturday and Sunday.

The Buckeye Men on Friday
In men's foil, Solin Li finished in 11th place to garner Honorable Mention All-America accolades. He was 4-8 on day two to finish the event 12-11 with a +8 indicator. Ilya Ayupov ended in 21st place with an 8-17 mark overall, picking up two victories Friday. Both Li and Ayupov were making their NCAA debuts.

In men's epee, Miles Weiss, in his second straight NCAA Championships, finished 13th and Gabriel Feinberg, in his second trip, was 17th. Weiss was 11-22 (-6) over the two days, with a 4-7 record Friday. Feinberg finished with nine wins, including three on the second day.   Â

In men's sabre, Avin Rai, in his NCAA debut, finished 19th and Nolan Williams, making his second trip to the championships and first since 2022, was 23rd. Rai posted four wins Friday and was 7-15 overall, while Williams posted three victories on day two and was 5-17 in the tournament.

Women's Competition Next
The women will compete Saturday and Sunday, with Buckeyes Gloria Klughardt (epee), Alina Lee (foil) and Natalia Botello (sabre) in the field.

On day one there will be three preliminary rounds. Epee will start at 9 a.m., with foil beginning at 11 a.m. and sabre at 1:30 p.m. Sunday will feature two more preliminary rounds, the semifinals and the finals. Sunday the awards ceremony for the women's individual champions and Top 8 finishers and the Top 3 teams will follow the finals.

The Format
At the championships, fencers will compete in a round-robin format of five-touch bouts. After round-robin, the Top 4 finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with winners fencing to determine first and second places and non-advancing fencers awarded a tie for third place. An institution's place finish in the championships will be based on points earned by each individual. A team will be awarded one point for each victory by its student-athletes during round-robin competition.
