Buckeyes Advance to Final Faceoff With 4-1 Win Over St. Thomas

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team swept its WCHA First Round series against seventh-seed St. Thomas with a 4-1 win Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink. The Buckeyes (27-6-3, 19-6-3 WCHA) advance to the 2025 WCHA Final Faceoff with the win and the Tommies finish the year 9-25-2.
Short Story
Ohio State came out of the gates flying, scoring two goals in the first two minutes of the game. Joy Dunne scored first for the Buckeyes for the second straight game, tallying a power play goal at 1:36. On the ensuing faceoff, Josie St. Martin picked up the puck along the boards and skated into the Tommies' zone with Jordyn Petrie and the two exchanged in a give-and-go before St. Martin eventually lit the lamp just 12 seconds after Dunne.
Maddi Wheeler tallied the third goal of the opening frame by redirecting a shot from the point by Riley Brengman past St. Thomas goaltender Dani Strom at 14:56.
Makenna Webster scored with 32 seconds left in the second to extend the Buckeye lead to four goals. Amanda Thiele made eight saves to keep the Tommies scoreless through the first two periods of play.
St. Thomas scored the lone goal of the third period to make the game 4-1.
