No. 9/11 Buckeyes Ready for B1G Series Against the Irish

- The No. 9/11 Ohio State men's hockey team heads to South Bend, Ind., for two Big Ten games vs. Notre Dame this weekend.
- The teams will meet at 7:05 p.m. Friday and 6:05 p.m. Saturday in Compton Family Ice Arena.Â
- Both games will be streamed through Peacock. Ohio State Radio will carry both games (1460 AM (Friday only), Ohio State Buckeyes app and website) and live stats will be available through OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
- Ohio State, 16-8-2 this season with a 9-6-1 2-2-0 (28 points/3rd place) B1G ledger, is coming off a split at home vs. No. 2 Michigan State last week. Notre Dame, which is 9-16-1 overall and 3-12-1- 2-2-1 (11 points/7th place) had a bye last week and last played Jan. 24-25 when it split with Lindenwood at home.Â
- All-time, Notre Dame leads the series with Ohio State, 49-47-12 (according to the Buckeye record book), with the first game Feb. 13, 1965. The Irish lead in games in South Bend, 26-18-5 and are ahead in Big Ten regular season games, 16-12-2.Â
- Ohio State and Notre Dame skated as members of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association until 2012-13 when the league was disbanded. Ohio State was a founding member of the conference in 1971-72 and played for two years before leaving for three seasons (1973-74, `74-75, `75-76) and skating as an independent. Ohio State then rejoined the CCHA for the 1975-1976 campaign and remained until 2013. The Irish were in the league in 1981-82 and `82-83 and then rejoined in 1992-93. The Buckeyes and Irish last met as CCHA foes March 23, 2013 in the CCHA Tournament semifinals, a 3-1 ND win at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
- Notre Dame associate head coach Paul Pooley is the Buckeyes' all-time leading scorer and his number 22 hangs in Value City Arena as the only Ohio State men's hockey player with his number retired.Â
- Ohio State is No. 9 in the USCHO poll and No. 11 in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live rankings this week, its 15th-straight week in the Top 20.
- The Buckeyes are in the Top 20 in the NCAA in scoring defense (2.42 goals allowed per game), scoring offense (3.19 gpg), scoring margin (+.77) and winning percentage (.654).
- Four Buckeyes have hit the 20-point mark. Gunnarwolfe Fontaine is first with 27, followed by Riley Thompson (24), Davis Burnside (21) and Aiden Hansen-Bukata (20).Â
- Fontaine and Thompson share the team lead with 12 goals each.Hansen-Bukata has a team-high 19 assists and is 11th nationally in assists per game (.79). Fontaine is 13th in the NCAA with six power play goals.Â
- Max Montes, who has 19 points, enters the series on six-game assist and point streaks.Â
- The Buckeyes will return home to host No. 19/20 Wisconsin Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 15 at 8:30 p.m. in Value City Arena.
- After a trip for two games at No. 3/3 Minnesota Feb. 21-22, the Buckeyes will wrap up the regular season at home vs. No. 13/13 Michigan Feb. 27-28.
