Ohio State Downs St. Thomas, 5-1, In WCHA First Round Opener

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team defeated St. Thomas, 5-1, in game one of the WCHA First Round Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink. The Buckeyes (26-6-3, 19-6-3 WCHA) take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series vs. the seven seed Tommies (9-24-2, 6-21-1 WCHA).
Short Story
Ohio State took a two-goal lead into the first intermission with goals from Joy Dunne (1:31) and Emma Peschel (12:39) in the opening frame. Dunne skated the puck from behind the St. Thomas goal and up to the top of the slot where she sent a wrister through the legs of Dani Strom. Peschel's goal was a tic-tac-toe effort by herself, Dunne and Jocelyn Amos to double up the lead.
Mira Jungåker scored the only goal of the second, sending a shot from the right faceoff circle through traffic to light the lamp at 4:46.
Ohio State scored its fourth straight goal on the power play with Amos scoring just 29 seconds into the third period.
St. Thomas thought it scored with 5:39 to play in the second but after review, the goal was called back for goaltender interference. The Tommies finally got on the board with 2:56 on the clock, taking advantage of a five-minute power play in the final seven minutes of the game.
But Ohio State restored the four-goal lead with a shorthanded tally by Jungåker with 1:46 to play in the game.
Amanda Thiele finished the game with 11 saves, including multiple odd-man rushes, to improve to 17-5-2 on the year for the Buckeyes.

- Jungåker recorded a career-high two goals and four points on the day. Her shorthanded goal was her first of her career.
- Dunne has a goal in the last five games and Amos has a goal in five of the last six games for the Buckeyes.
