
Jankovics, Navikonis Win B1G Titles on Friday in Minneapolis

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 13 Ohio State men's swimming and diving team picked up two individual Big Ten titles on Thursday, with Tristan Jankovics winning the 400 IM and Tomas Navikonis repeating as the 200 free champion.
The night opened with the 100 fly. Matt Klinge placed eighth in the A final with an NCAA B standard time of 46.05. Evan Fentress finished fifth in the B final with an NCAA B cut of 46.33. Mario McDonald placed sixth in the C final, turning in a time of 46.85.
Jankovics won the 400 IM; it is his first career individual Big Ten title. He swam an automatic NCAA qualifying time of 3:35.51, which is also a program record. Jankovics broke his own record of 3:38.49 set in 2024. Will Bansberg finished eighth in the A final with an NCAA B cut of 3:48.60. In the B final, Alex Metzler (3:43.75) finished second and Mason Edmund (3:46.12) finished fifth; both of their times are NCAA B cuts. Sam Campbell placed second in the 400 IM C final with an NCAA B standard time of 3:46.39.
Navikonis won his second straight 200 free title, finishing in a program record and NCAA A standard time of 1:31.01. It is the second time this week he has broken the 200 free record, breaking it initially with his split of 1:31.41 in the 800 free relay. Jordi Vilchez finished second in the B final with an NCAA B cut of 1:34.12. In the C final, Daniel Baltes (1:35.70) placed fourth and Martin Perecinsky (1:35.86) placed fifth.
Karl Helmuth placed fifth in the B final of the 100 breast with an NCAA B standard time of 52.86.
Cornelius Jahn finished eighth in the 100 back A final, touching at 45.95, which is an NCAA B cut.
Clayton Chaplin placed sixth in the 3-meter dive with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 358.50. In the consolation final, Tyler Read finished sixth with a score of 309.75.
The Buckeyes closed out the night with a sixth-place finish in the 400 medley relay, with the team of Jahn, Jankovics, Klinge and Navikonis finishing in 3:06.59.
After three days of competition, the Buckeyes are in third place with 731 points. Indiana leads with 1,067 points and Michigan is in second place with 784.5 points.
The Big Ten Championships conclude on Saturday, March 1. Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. CT/11:00 a.m. ET. Diving consolation finals get underway at 5:00 p.m. CT/6:00 p.m. ET and swimming finals begin at 5:30 p.m. CT/6:30 p.m. ET.
