Forward had four points in series vs Minnesota
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Max Montes, a junior forward on the Ohio State men's hockey team, has been selected the Big Ten Second Star of the Week, the Big Ten Conference announced Tuesday. Montes led the Buckeyes with four points in their series vs. Minnesota last weekend. This is the second league star of the week honor of his career.
Against the Gophers, Montes had two goals in game one and two assists in game two, with four shots on goal in each game. He won 28 faceoffs in the series, recording 17 wins last Thursday and 11 last Friday. Last Thursday he opened the scoring and then tied the game in the third. Friday, he assisted on the game's first goal, a power play tally, and then set up the the score that tied the game in the second. He led the NCAA with a 66.7 faceoff winning percentage over the last week.Â
This season, Montes has 12 points, with seven goals and five assists, along with a team-best 146 faceoff wins. He is tied for third on the team in points and tied for second in goals.Â
Montes and the Buckeyes ended their 2025 slate with the series split against Minnesota. The squad will return to action Jan. 2-3 with a home-and-home series against Bowling Green. Game one will be in Columbus, with puck drop at 6:30 p.m.Â
