Thompson Signs with NHL Philadelphia Flyers

Junior scored 84 points in 111 collegiate games
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Riley Thompson, who recently completed his junior season with the Ohio State men's hockey team, has signed a  one-year entry-level contract beginning with the 2026-27 season with the Philadlephia Flyers, the organization announced Thursday. Thompson will report to the Flyers' American Hockey League affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, on a professional tryout.
Thompson, a forward from Ottawa, Ontario, was an alternate captain for the Buckeyes this season. He saw action in 111 collegiate games, with 39 goals and 45 assists for 84 points. He had 14 power play goals, two shorthanded scores and five gamewinning tallies, along with 81 shot blocks and 633 faceoff wins.
In 2025-26, Thompson played in all 37 games for the Buckeyes, with 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points, along with 30 shot blocks and 192 faceoff wins. He was an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection in 2024-25 when he had a 17-16-33 line in 40 games, winning 327 faceoffs and blocking 34 shots. He spent his first collegiate campaign at Alaska Anchorage, where he notched 24 points on nine goals and 15 assists. He was a two-time Big Ten Star of the Week honoree. The Buckeyes reached the Big Ten Tournament championship game each of his two years on the squad and earned an NCAA berth in 2025.Â
