COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State will close out the 2025 calendar year by hosting Grambling State on Tuesday afternoon at the Schottenstein Center. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. and the game will be televised on BTN. Jason Ross Jr. and Earl Watson will call the action.
The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.
- This will be just the second all-time meeting between the programs as the Buckeyes won the previous meeting 82-55 on Nov. 17, 2015 in Columbus. Kam Williams led the way for the Buckeyes with 22 points off the bench on 9-of-12 shooting and a then career-high five rebounds. Keita Bates-Diop and Marc Loving each had 14 points.
- The schools football teams also met earlier this fall. It was the first meeting between the schools on the gridiron and the Buckeyes rolled to a 70-0 victory.
- The last time the Buckeye football and basketball teams played a common non-conference opponent in the same season was in 2021 when the football team took care of Akron 59-7 and then the basketball team opened the year with a 67-66 victory on a last second lay-in by Zed Key.
- The Buckeyes are coming off a tough 71-70 setback to No. 12 North Carolina last Saturday in the CBS Sports Classic in Atlanta. Ohio State trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half and came all the way back to take a three-point lead with under a minute to play. But UNC scored twice and John Mobley Jr.’s three-point attempt at the buzzer fell off the rim.
- All five Buckeye starters scored in double figures led by junior Devin Royal’s 18 points. He was 6-of-12 from the floor and made both of his three-point attempts.
- Christoph Tilly recorded his second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three assists. Tilly has a pair of double-doubles this year and five for his career.
- Bruce Thornton had a busy week last week. He flew to Atlanta on Tuesday and got his jersey retired at Milton High School. He then flew back to Columbus for practice and then returned to Atlanta where he scored 16 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished-out four assists in front of friends and family against North Carolina. He then came home and received his degree at graduation inside the Schottenstein Center on Sunday.
- Thornton is currently third in the Big Ten in scoring at 21.3 ppg and is ninth all-time in scoring at Ohio State with 1,721 career points.
- Freshman Amare Bynum made his first collegiate start on Saturday vs. North Carolina, finishing with 11 points and six rebounds before fouling out.
- Grambling State enters the game winners of its last two games and holds a record of 5-6 overall. Freshman Antonio Munoz leads the team in scoring at 14.1 ppg.
