
Mobley Jr. Leads Five in Double Digits as Buckeyes Roll Past Grambling State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore John Mobley Jr. made five three-pointers and five double-digit scorers lifted Ohio State to an 89-63 win over Grambling State on Tuesday afternoon at the Schottenstein Center.
The Buckeyes improve to 9-3 on the season and head into Big Ten play next weekend.
Mobley Jr. (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) led the Buckeyes with an efficient 20-point outing, going 6-of-10 from the field and 5-of-8 from three. He added four assists and scored 15 of his 20 points in the second half, marking the second time this season and eighth in his career that he’s reached the 20-point mark.
All five Ohio State starters scored in double figures for the second consecutive game. Senior guard Bruce Thornton (Fairburn, Ga.) finished with 18 points and three assists, scoring nine in the second half as the Buckeyes pulled away. Freshman forward Amare Bynum (Omaha, Neb.) added 12 points, a game-high nine rebounds, and three assists in another well-rounded performance.
Junior forward Devin Royal (Pickerington, Ohio) posted 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting, and senior center Christoph Tilly (Berlin, Germany) tallied 10 points, two rebounds, and three assists while helping Ohio State dominate the paint.
The Buckeyes shot 62.0 percent from the floor and 84.0 percent from the free-throw line while outscoring Grambling State 42–20 in the paint. Ohio State also turned 15 Tiger turnovers into 29 points.
After leading 39–24 at the break, Ohio State opened the second half on a 31–17 run, including back-to-back threes from Mobley and a fastbreak and-one finish from Bynum. The lead ballooned to 28 points with just under five minutes to play before the Buckeyes emptied their bench.
Freshman Antonio Munoz led Grambling State (5-7) with 19 points, including nine from the line. Senior guard Jamil Muttilib added 10 points while graduate guard Derrius Ward and senior forward Jimel Lane scored 12 each.
Ohio State assisted on 19 of its 31 made field goals, and held Grambling to just 38.5 percent shooting. The Buckeyes also improved to 6-0 this season when scoring at least 80 points.
