Buckeyes Break Single Game Steals Record in Win Against Norse

Ohio State tallied 27 steals in a 94-62 win against Northern Kentucky on Thursday evening.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 21/21 Ohio State women's basketball team (8-1, 1-0 B1G) beat Northern Kentucky (3-9, 0-2 Horizon) by a 94-62 margin in Thursday night's student appreciation game. Ohio State broke its single game steals record with 27 steals.
The Norse got off to a quick start, but the Buckeyes responded and trailed by a 22-20 margin after one quarter of play. Ohio State took its first lead of the game during the second quarter, but it was Northern Kentucky ahead by a 43-38 margin at halftime. The Buckeyes used runs of 16-0 and 10-0 in a 30-9 third quarter to take a 68-52 lead after 30 minutes of play. Ohio State closed the game with a 26-10 fourth quarter to cap scoring at 94-62.
Jaloni Cambridge was the first to reach double figures, doing so on the Buckeyes' opening possession of the second quarter on her way to tying her career-high 33 points. Ava Watson (13) and Kylee Kitts (11) joined J. Cambridge in double figures. On the defensive side of the ball, Kennedy Cambridge recorded a career-high 10 steals to tie for the third most by a player in a single game in program history. Watson also tied her career-high seven steals.

Quarter-by-Quarter Recap
- Q1: Northern Kentucky opened scoring with the game's first four points before T'yana Todd got Ohio State on the board with a three-pointer. NKU built a 19-7 lead in the first six minutes of the quarter. The Buckeyes scored eight unanswered points in less than one minute to cut their deficit to 19-15 with 2:30 remaining in the quarter. Ohio State trailed 22-20 after 10 minutes as the Buckeye defense allowed only three points in the final four minutes of the opening frame.
- Q2: Both defenses started the second quarter strong as the quarter's points were 5-4 in the Buckeyes' favor after four minutes of play. A pair of J. Cambridge free throws gave Ohio State its first lead of the game, 27-26, with 5:11 to play in the half. NKU used a 7-0 run to take a 38-34 lead with 1:18 remaining in the frame and led by a 43-38 margin at the break.
- Q3: The Norse converted a pair of free throws to open the second half before the Buckeyes put together a 16-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 54-45 lead with 6:36 to play in the quarter. Ohio State scored 10 unanswered points on its way to a 68-52 lead after three quarters of play.
- Q4: Ohio State scored the first four points of the quarter and used a 16-0 run, capped by a three-pointer from Ella Hobbs, to extend its lead to 90-57 with three minutes to play. Bryn Martin scored the Buckeyes' final basket in a 94-62 win.
