COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State pistol team continued its early-season success over the weekend with a victory at Army. The Buckeyes totaled 6685 points to Army's 6481.
Individually, Blaine Simpson had the top overall aggregate score (1682) while teammate Jonathan Dorsten was second (1676).
Three Buckeyes posted personal best scores over the weekend: Maral Gantsooj (569) and Evan Langerak (550) in the air pistol and Leah Mueller (528) in the standard pistol.
This weekend's competition marked the first time a modified rapid fire pistol course of fire was introduced in a regular season collegiate match, with two participants from each team. Rapid fire pistol is the Olympic event for men, introduced first in 1896 in Athens and has been a part of every Olympic Games since then. Ohio State was represented by Blaine Simpson and Evan Langerak, scoring 560 total, vs. Army's team members of Ian Dooley and Evan Shaffer, who scored 546.
