
Mobley Jr.’s Career-High Propels Buckeyes to Blowout Win Over Mount St. Mary’s

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind a career-high 26 points from sophomore guard John Mobley Jr. (Reynoldsburg, Ohio), Ohio State cruised to a 113–60 win over Mount St. Mary’s Tuesday night at the Schottenstein Center, improving to 6–0 on the season for the first time since the 2019–20 season.
Mobley Jr. shot 10-of-15 from the field, including four three-pointers, to pace an Ohio State offense that shot 64.1 percent from the floor and 48.4 percent from deep in its most dominant performance of the year. The Buckeyes broke the 100-point mark for the first time since the season opener and never trailed, leading for over 38 minutes of game time.
Junior guard Devin Royal (Pickerington, Ohio) delivered his best outing of the season, scoring 17 points and grabbing four rebounds, while senior guard Bruce Thornton (Fairburn, Ga.) added 14 points, five assists, and two steals. Thornton also moved into a tie for 11th on Ohio State’s all-time scoring list with 1,613 career points, matching Perry Carter.
The Buckeyes led by 26 at halftime and extended their advantage to as many as 54 in the second half. They outscored Mount St. Mary’s 61–34 after the break, with the bench contributing 35 total points. Sophomore center Ivan Njegovan (Otocac, Croatia) posted a career-high 15 points in 16 minutes off the bench, going a perfect 7-of-7 from the field.
Ohio State dominated statistically, winning the rebounding battle 41–22 and holding the Mountaineers to just 37.3 percent shooting and 18.8 percent from three-point range. Luke McEldon led Mount St. Mary’s with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Arlandus Keyes added 13.
With the win, head coach Jake Diebler’s squad continues its strong start and remains unbeaten heading into its first road test of the season.
