Ohio State used a 20-8 fourth quarter to cap the victory in the tournament opener.

NASSAU, Bahamas – The RV/RV Ohio State women's basketball team (4-1) beat Belmont (3-3) by a 68-56 margin in its first game at the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship on Monday.

Belmont scored the final seven points in a first quarter that featured six lead changes and led by an 18-13 margin after 10 minutes. Ohio State got within one, 31-30, at halftime after a pair of Chance Gray three-pointers ended the frame. Belmont used a buzzer beater to tie the game at 48 to end the third quarter. Ohio State scored the first eight and final seven points of the final quarter to win by a 68-56 margin.

Jaloni Cambridge was the first in the game to reach double figures, doing so midway through the second quarter and finishing with a season-high 26 points. Gray's four triples in the first half led her to 17 total points. Kylee Kitts earned her first collegiate double-double with a career-high 12 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.

Quarter-by-Quarter Recap

Q1: Belmont scored the first two baskets of the game before back-to-back Ohio State baskets gave the Buckeyes their first lead at 5-4. The game had four lead changes before the media timeout with the Bruins leading 11-10. J. Cambridge's three-pointer gave the lead back to the Buckeyes, but the Bruin responded with a 7-0 run to take an 18-13 lead after 10 minutes.
Q2: Ohio State tied the game at 18 within the first two minutes of the quarter after a pair of free throws from T'yana Todd. Belmont scored the next five points before J. Cambridge scored the next four on the floor to get the Buckeyes within one at 23-22. Belmont led by as many as seven points at 31-24, but Gray made a pair of three-pointers to end the half with Ohio State trailing 31-30.
Q3: Kylee Kitts opened third-quarter scoring with a pair of free throws to give Ohio State its first lead since the first quarter. The Buckeyes began the quarter with an 8-1 run, holding the Bruins without a basket for the first four and a half minutes to build a 38-32 lead. The Buckeyes maintained the six-point advantage at 46-40 after a three-pointer from Bryn Martin but the Bruins tied the game at 48 with a buzzer beater to end the quarter.
Q4: The Buckeyes scored the first eight points of the quarter to take a 56-48 lead with 7:35 to play, forcing a Bruins timeout. Gray's fifth triple of the game gave Ohio State a 60-49 lead with 6:20 remaining, the largest lead of the game by either team. Belmont cut its deficit to five at 61-56, but Ohio State responded with back-to-back baskets and got to the line down the stretch to earn a 68-56 victory.

Game Notes

Ohio State made its first 16 free throw attempts.
The Buckeye defense forced 19 turnovers and finished with nine steals.
Jaloni Cambridge was the first in the game to reach double figures and finished with a season-high 26 points, surpassing 20 points for the second time this season. She's scored in double figures in all five games this season.
Chance Gray also reached double figures in the first half after making 4-of-6 from deep during the first 20 minutes. She finished with 17 points in her fourth double-figure performance of the season. Gray's five made triples is a season-high.
Kylee Kitts earned her first collegiate double-double with a career-high 12 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. This is the second game this season that she's totaled at least 10 rebounds.
Bryn Martin totaled a career-high three steals.
