Ohio State Beats Michigan State on Senior Day

The Buckeyes earned a four-set win on Sunday as three totaled at least 10 kills and four totaled at least 10 digs.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (6-20, 3-15 B1G) defeated Michigan State (18-10, 8-10 B1G) in four sets (25-15, 24-26, 28-26, 25-18) in Sunday afternoon's senior day match inside the Covelli Center.

Ohio State used a 6-0 run midway through the first set to propel itself to a 25-15 set win. The second set featured 13 ties and eight lead changes as Michigan State evened the match with a 26-24 set win. The Buckeyes fought off two Spartan set points in the third to capture a 28-26 set win and the match advantage. A late 8-0 Ohio State run in the fourth set gave the Buckeyes the separation needed for a 25-18 set win to end the match.

Set-by-Set Recap
- S1: Michigan State opened scoring and Ohio State put together pairs of points to take a 10-6 lead. The Spartans responded with the next three points to get within one and tied the set at 11. Reese Wuebker capped a 6-0 Buckeye run with a kill as Ohio State held an 18-12 advantage. Ohio State scored six of the final seven points in the set to capture a 25-15 set win.
- S2: The Spartans again scored first before three Buckeye points. Michigan State took a 7-6 lead following three unanswered points – the Spartans' first lead since 2-1 in the first set. Each team grabbed a narrow lead before the set was tied at points 11 through 14. Michigan State led by a 17-15 margin, but Ohio State responded with a 5-0 run to take a 20-17 lead on a block from Mia Tuman and Kaia Castle. The Spartans battled back to regain the lead at 21-20 and led by a 23-21 margin. The Buckeyes took a 24-23 lead after three unanswered points, but the Spartans scored the final three points, including a challenge win, to earn a 26-24 set win.
- S3: Ohio State scored the first point of the set before Michigan State took an early 5-3 lead. Each team held another lead early as the Spartans held the 11-9 advantage. Michigan State led by as many as three points at 16-13, but Ohio State scored the next three points to tie the set at 16 on a kill from Castle. The Buckeyes capped a 3-0 run on a service ace from Olivia Hasbrook to lead 22-19. Ohio State fought off a pair of Michigan State set points and scored four of the final five points of the set to win by a 28-26 margin on a kill from Hannah Jones.
- S4: The Spartans struck first in the set, but the Buckeyes grabbed an early 8-3 advantage. Ohio State led by as many as six points at 13-7 before Michigan State started to chip away, cutting its deficit down to just one at 15-14. The Buckeyes put together an 8-0 run to take a 23-14 lead following back-to-back blocks. Jones' 22nd kill of the afternoon sealed the match with a 25-18 win in the set.
- This is the seventh time this season that Ohio State has had at least three players total at least 10 kills apiece and the fourth time this season that the Buckeyes have had at least three players tally at least 10 digs apiece.
- Hannah Jones was the first in the match to reach 10 kills, doing so in the second set on her way to 22 total kills. This is her 14th match of the season with 10 or more kills and fifth with 20 or more kills. She added a career-high 12 digs for her third double-double of the season.
- Na'vea Gauthier recorded 10 or more kills for the fifth time this season and tied her career-high 15 kills today.
- Mia Tuman surpassed 700 career digs as her 11 digs today brought her career total to 706. She also had 50 assists today to earn her 10th double-double of the season.
- This is Olivia Hasbrook's fifth match of the season with three or more aces. She also totaled at least 10 digs for the 16th time this season, finishing with 19 digs.
- Reese Wuebker recorded at least 10 digs for the fourth time this season, finishing with 11 digs.
- This is the fifth time this season that Ashley Carr has totaled at least five blocks. She finished with a match-high seven blocks today.
- Kaia Castle's seventh match of the season with 10 or more kills was good for 10 kills today.
- S1: Michigan State hit in the red (-.029) during the set. After being tied at 12, Ohio State outscored the Spartans 13-3 during the rest of the set.
- S2: The Spartans won a challenge to take a 25-24 lead and set up set point. The set featured 13 ties and eight lead changes.
- S3: The teams were tied at points 22 through 26 before back-to-back points from Ohio State clinched the set win.
- S4: Ohio state used an 8-0 run late in the set to pull away.
