
Buckeyes Race Past Broncos 91-58, Improve to 5-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Five Buckeyes scored in double figures as Ohio State improved to 5-0 with a 91-58 victory over Western Michigan on Thursday evening at Value City Arena.
Senior center Christorph Tilly continued to impress as he led the way with 17 points and a career-high seven assists with zero turnovers. John Mobley Jr. had 15 points while Bruce Thornton was 3-of-4 from long range and finished with 11 points.
Devin Royal and freshman Amare Bynum each recorded double-doubles in the win. Royal had 10 points and 10 rebounds while Bynum notched the first double-double of his career with 12 points and 10 boards.
The Buckeyes shot 53 percent in the opening half and raced out to a 49-19 lead. In the second half, the lead grew to as many as 43 points following an 11-0 and the Buckeyes cruised the rest of the way.
Western Michigan was led by Brady Swartz who came off the bench to score 20 points and grab nine rebounds.
Notes
- This was the fifth time that the Buckeyes and Western Michigan have played against each other. The Buckeyes are 5-0 in the series.
- Bruce Thornton ended the game with 11 points. He has moved up to 11th all-time in scoring in school history, passing Robin Freeman with 1,599 career points.
- The Buckeyes were strong defensively, holding Western Michigan to 33.9 percent from the floor and outscoring the Broncos 32-9 off turnovers.
- The Buckeyes had season-highs of 49 rebounds and seven steals.
- Devin Royal grabbed ten rebounds to go along with ten points. This was his first double-double of the season and the fourth of his career.
- Freshman A’mare Bynum once again impressed off of the bench. Bynum had his first career double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling in ten boards, both being season-highs.
- The Buckeyes were able to showcase their depth, with 11 players scoring and ten grabbing a rebound.
- The Buckeyes started the game on a 15-4 run.
- The Buckeyes went on a 17-0 run in the first half, which extended their lead to 35-14. The Buckeyes would lead by as much as 30 in the period.
